Hey Ladies!
I really feel like I should know this already, but what exactly is a prime lens? What is a wide angle lens? I read articles that talk about these, but I have yet to get my head around the elementary meaning of them. TIA! |

A prime lens doesn't zoom--it's a fixed focal length lens.
A wide angle lens allows a wide view with your camera. How wide is wide really depends, I think. But, basically, the wider the lens (the smaller the measurement, like 10mm or 24mm) the more you see in the frame and in the photo. As that measurement gets larger you move into telephoto range (like 85mm or 200mm and on up), where your view is narrower but you're bringing things in closer. In the middle is "normal," around 35-50mm. "Normal" is close to what we see with our eyes. Does that help?

The lense that is considered the PERFECT portrait lense - in other words the lense that is the best proportionally for human features.
( This rule was film days I wonder if this has changed to about 80 for digital)
