Default Which Lens?

Which lens is better for trick or treating? The zoom lens or one with a wider aperture?

In my opinion it depends on a few things.

If you are going out later (darker) then I'd want the wider aperture to grab more light.

If I'm going with bigger kids who can walk to the doors by themselves while I wait at the curb telephoto might be fun but will be difficult to get enough light without a flash.

I'll be using my 50mm 1.4 for photos tonight if we get to go out. (raining here!) My son is 3 and since it is stormy it will probably be pretty dark.

I'll also carry my wide angle lens for those fun well lit full body/door shots. My telephoto will stay at home in the bag.

Do you have 2 cameras that you take or just switch lenses? I was thinking of going with the 50mm or the 90mm. Plus they are so much lighter to carry around!

I will carry two cameras today...my dh has decided he wants me to teach him how to take photos...so he'll carry the old camera with the wide angle lens!

It is really nice to have the second camera. It doesn't come out very often but I sure love having it in a pinch (although I've completely forgotten how to use anything on it since the original DigiRebel is a lot different than the 30D!)

have fun!
