Visiting Pompano Beach, Ft. Lauderdale Area

We're planning a two-night stay in the Pompano Beach/Ft. Lauderdale area next week and we're trying to find a good place to stay that doesn't cost an arm and a leg (I really do need both of my arms and legs!). It's so hard to trust on-line reviews. Does anybody have any suggestions? We really just want to be sure the place is clean and has no bugs! A complimentary breakfast would be nice but is not a necessity. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
