Sorry to hear about your cancelled trip Maureen but there will be other trips and thank goodness your dear hubby has such wonderful people to take care of him. All the best to him and you. Health is so important and in the blink of an eye things can change so quickly! God Bless

San Francisco sounds a great idea Maureen... something for Dick to look forward to and take his mind off this surgery somewhat... {cyber hugs coming your way}

We did have a bit of glitch in the process. Our insurance will not pay to have the procedure done here at the hospital in Annapolis because our hospital is taking part in a national study on heart surgery.

We now have to go into a DC hospital for a 06:00 arrival which was the only time block available. That means a night in a hotel before and possibly another one for me if Dick has to stay overnight. The hospital is good but the neighborhood isn't great. It just makes what could have been a half day in and out into a two day process. But again, it is what it is, and we are fortunate to be near so many good hospitals.

Sorry to hear about the glitch, but love your positive attitude, Maureen. Keep us posted!

A small inconvenience, just stay safe. You can pretty much say that about any major hospital out there---I always worry when my sister has to take my niece to the ER at Hopkins. GREAT hospital, HORRIBLE part of town. Esp. when it's 2 AM and she's driving by herself with an unresponsive baby in the back.

That said---I'm going to throw my "be extra grateful" encouragement in the mix. We don't have a lick of insurance. Nada. Nothing. There is always this devil on my shoulder telling me the other shoe will drop--the kidney problems, insulin dependence, cancer, my children breaking bones. We can't pay for insurance and eat, too. I'm grateful you have the insurance that will cover it! An extra blessing to be thankful for this holiday season.

Sarah, it's sad cases like yours that remind me of just how fortunate we are. That has to be a tremendous weight on your heart. Hugs!

Well Maureen, you could always make it into a little adventure side trip! You know how to organize the coolest trips, maybe you could add some sight seeing to the overnight stay!

Actually Anke, one thing I may do is visit the VA Hospital which is right next door. My father died of ALS there in December 1973 while I was in England. We're staying in Silver Spring where Dick used to work (in fact he was at a meeting there this am), so there is definitely a good dinner involved.

Yay for the dinner! Silver Spring . . . all I think of when I hear that is how crammed up that exit off the Beltway always is. Have a "good" time! (As much as can be had in light of such a procedure.)
