Default Cut it with a knife!

DH & I have a theory that you cannot be sad while eating an ice cream cone. We reflected on our childhood days and concurred that yes, this is a valid theory. However, my son proved that false last week when he was crying while he was eating a bowl of ice cream . . . so all our scientific work went down the drain.

But can you be tense and flaming mad while you scrap? I didn't think so.

Today I'm at my in-law's and my MIL spent her free time over the past six years or so making matching photo albums for my husband and his sister. They were each given two packed-full albums last night for a Christmas gift. It is precious to me & DH because we have no photos---at all---of him or his family from before our wedding.

SIL grumped because she wanted her prom/homecoming pictures and some photos from high school theater productions in the books and there weren't any. So MIL grabbed all her papers and photos from storage and is sitting here at the table, slamming scissors and making a fuss that she needs to do these extra pages for SIL. I made the mistake of asking if she needed help and got the evil eye. The tension is so thick you could . . . well, cut it with a knife.

Ugh! Mama llama drama. On the up side, I'm sitting with them working on my pages, which I haven't done in FOREVER.

To my U.S. friends and anyone else getting in on the day, Happy Thanksgiving tomorrow! May your turkey be gobble-y good and may the tryptophan and carbs send you straight into lovely food comas.

Oh, brother! Or, should I say, sister! Hard to believe something as nice as compiling photo albums for a son and a daughter could cause stress.

Well, yes, best stay out of the way, dear Sarah, and hope your mil turns to digital scrapping next! It sounds dangerous to be anywhere near the scissors!

Oh, and, Happy Thanksgiving to you, Sarah!

EEkkk Sarah...step back from those scissors! You're right to stay out of it and keep your mind on your pages.

Gobble til you wobble, and have a blessed day. I am reminding myself that quibbling family is better than no family.

Bah, guess it shows people can get stressed about anything if they're determined to! Definitely keep away from the scissors. Happy Thanksgiving to you!

Though I reckon your ice cream theory still holds, after all your son was eating his ice cream in a bowl, different conditions.

Ohmigosh, how ungrateful can your SIL be?? If I were her mother, I think I might have said, "Here are the supplies; help yourself." Talk about looking a gift horse in the mouth. Good idea to stay away from your MIL and those scissors, Sarah. Hope the stress lessens as Thanksgiving nears. Maybe the aroma of the turkey will bring your SIL to her senses.

Yes, maybe this is true!

Things calmed down a little bit . . . MIL asked me about ten minutes later if I wanted to do a page. "Want" is a strong word. I made a page as extending an olive branch and things are better.

Yee-ha! And yes, anyone who knows me knows I shouldn't be allowed within ten feet of scissors or a personal trimmer. I was chanting to myself, "just cut straight. Just cut straight . . ."

Happy Thanksgiving to you... sure hope you SIL doesn't come up with any other complaints to ruin the day... personally I think I would have bopped her on the head with the album :-)

There always seems to be "one" (I.e. SIL) in every family. Well maybe not every family but on outskirts of family.

My late MIL was notorious for giving you a sweater/scarf/whatever she claimed she always disliked probably from one of the Thrift Shops (of course it was the gift given by self or grandaughter for birthday or Chrismas )

Everyone have a blessed Thanksgiving. Enjoy!
After the first few times we ended up buying things WE liked and WE wanted - it worked. By spring they we returned as unflattering, ghastly etc.
Mandy and I would leave Granny's flat giggling in delight,

LOL! I can just imagine the scene!

Hope things have calmed down now and you have a lovely Thanksgiving. And I am with you on the fear of scissors and trimmers - No.1 reason I went digi all those years ago!

Glad you got the photo though. We have none of DH either. There were few taken and the ones that were are in a dusty box locked in storage while MIL lives overseas :-(

OMG, what drama to have over a holiday for which we are supposed to give Thanks for the blessings we call life. Had a nice peaceful dinner here at home with 4 dogs, my son, and my friend. Here's hoping today finds things less stressful where ever you may find yourself and to all a very Happy Thanksgiving Day.

Well, as annoying as I'm sure this was for you, you made me SMILE! It's only 10am here, so our holiday food frenzy hasn't started yet... But, Shannon and I are watching the Macy's Parade so we're getting in the mood! Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

It all worked out fine. By the next afternoon, MIL and SIL were reminiscing at the table, working on a few more pages. SIL's problem is that she has no filter between her brain and her mouth, and frankly doesn't care if she hurts feelings or not, until or unless it comes back to bite her. She apologized to everyone, and MIL apologized to me yesterday at lunch for the evil eye. I laughed and told her, well, there's always a first time. We laughed about it, but it made me sad when she told me she cried herself to sleep Wednesday night after it all happened. She knows how much the whole project was appreciated, especially by me & DH, so that's what counts.

We had LOTS of turkey and while the cooking left a lot to be desired, it was done with love and we had a good time around the table. I sure did miss Black Friday shopping, though. Couldn't find a partner in crime willing to get up early on Friday to go with me.
