Thumbs up Brain Tired but Happy

We seniors are often bone tired, but this afternoon, I am just brain tired. Mr. R. is finishing up on his pre Lion work, and he keeps pester..uh..trying to be sure I am up to speed on various issues... He is having a fit trying to get the new Mac quicken whatever to be functional, functional to an engineering standard, and I have just tried to keep my door shut.

However today was my day to finally bite the bullet and swap out the last bit of memory I got for my iMac. Ages ago. I was going from 2G to 4G but ran into an issue with one piece of the new memory not being ok. I finally settled on 3GB and said I'd get round to the last bit ...eventually. Well eventually came today. The only hard part was yet again, getting that memory panel shoved in hard enough!

Since I got that done, I thought...go ahead and finally say adios to PSE8 on my iMac. I installed PSE9, and thought I was near the finish line, when Adobe said...NO, no..you already have PSE9 on two computers. Ok, go and uninstall it from the old old MBP and see if Adobe 'heard' the uninstall. Yes. Now just to get the actions and styles in place. With a bit of transfer of some things from one computer to another, I think I'm about good to go. Even Katie's Drop Shadows show up! That's a miracle because I sure didn't have the brain cells left to write another xml file. Not today.

I still have a folder of new actions I have had waiting for Ms.Lazy Bones to do the 8 to 9 switch but that will be another day.

And Lion? I'm giving Mr. R at least a month with it before I take the plunge. That way he can rant and rave himself into understanding, and hopefully be calm enough to act as my IT man, a role he's usually very good at. Now, I think it's time to go to sleep....or at least watch a movie!

Wow, it sounds like you have put in a full day. I'm impressed by what you accomplished!

Tired, maybe, but, I think you and Mr. R. have impressive brain cells to keep up the way you do with the latest Mac OS, software and memory upgrades the way you do!

I'll count on you to let us know when you upgrade to Lion, Maureen. I'm holding off for now, too. Everything is working so well for me right now...so, I am lazy about upgrading.

Wow! That's a busy day. I think it's wise to hold off on Lion. Have a friend who just installed it and she's having a nightmare with permissions. She is a graphic designer big-wig and she uses Photoshop, Lightroom, InDesign, and Illustrator every day. It's about to drive her nuts.

Better you than me, Maureen! I have a feeling our engineering husbands would get along fine. Don is my IT man!

Lest some of you members who have been here for some time think this is an old story, well it is. This is when it started
http://www.designerdigitals.com/digi...pgrade-web.jpg

After doing that, my iMac hiccuped and stopped. Into the Apple store it went, only to find out that one of the Crucial memory cards was actually 'bad'. So I went from 4G to 3G (using one of the old Apple cards). Crucial replaced it immediately but it took me...uh ...almost two years to finish my own job.

Maureen, I hope you will give us your experience with Lion. I am not upgrading because I use Quicken on VM Fusion (the way to have Windows run a Mac....the way to use Quicken on a Mac). I didn't now there was a way to use Quicken on a regular MAC....except Quicken for MAC....I am hoping that is NOT what you DH is doing...BAD BAD reviews.

I may just have to change financial packages...as the NY Times people suggest. ANyway I can only imagine what sounds are coming from his room!!

uhm...Mr. R has gone through one or two Mac friendly bits of software to handle finances since he decided on Lion and is still not happy. Neither of us have installed it but really want it for The Cloud.

We ditched Mobile me because he had so many synching problems - that Apple could not resolve. I mentally thought 'user error' but held my tongue if Apple was stumped. I have suggested the running of Windows just for that reason but...again, my suggestions fell on deaf ears.

It def won't be til mid-September for me for Lion at the earliest.

Elena, I've rarely met a piece of software that I didn't like! though Adobe has tested my intuitive knowledge. I think it's from learning so many different languages from childhood on. My brain can switch gears but I am lazy too.

I'm so impressed reading that. One of the reasons I like my Mac is that I don't need to know how it works lol. My dad is the one who knows this stuff, he's still PC though we've just turned my mum to the Mac side and she loves it. I'll keep my eye on Lion reviews, but tbh my little Macbook is already running a bit slow when I have a big PSE file open so I don't think upgrading the software would be a good idea. Upgrading the memory is on my list though.

So know what you mean about holding your tongue on these occasions. Dad's laptop crashed pretty badly the other week when we were visiting, but luckily he's now recovered it all.

I do love my Lion I do have an issue - one you will see in several places online, but poss a 'certain' group of people issue. My wifi connection drops when my mac goes to sleep fora long period - like not a few seconds of sleep but half an hour say. it may take my iMac three seconds or up to two minutes {!!!!} for it to 'scan' and connect again. Word has its particular internet service providers, who deny such things of course I'm not too impressed, but I will say other than that its good.and I know its a patch thats prob on its way... 10.7.1 did not fix it!
BTW - cs3 and LR2 all running well {I got 'told' via the internet my CS3 would not work, and it so does!!} I'd never have upgraded so early but my new iMac came all lion and ready
