Default It's snowing in Central Auckland, New Zealand!

For the first time in living memory. Last week people were walking around in T-shirts and the daffodils are out but today it is snowing. Nobody can talk about anything else. A typical quote from a local messageboard:

its snowing on Queen st. YAY its snowing in Auckland!!! Our entire office block has emptied and everyone is astonished and joyful!

Wonderful for y'all! It snowed four inches last year here in Louisiana, which is highly unusual. It happens every 20-25 years. Have fun while it lasts!

Hey, Lynn, I suppose a little snow, separated by many years in between, is fun! Just so I don't see any snow for at least 3 more months (I hope!)

You will be sharing photos, right?

In South Auckland we have had awesome hail but no snow. The hail came down like heavy rain and stayed on the ground for ages (when we have had hail before it's just about always melted straight away). Like Lynn said the news and radio stations are just talking about the snow! I think the South Island is just about in shut down because of heavy snow, but Auckland ... wow! Lynn, I think they said the last snow in Auckland was in 1939? Wow!

ETA. Apparently we had sleet at my house today, not hail . And the last snow 'flurry' in Auckland was in 1976, with the last snow fall (as in landing) being in 1939 .

Enjoy it for it's rareness you NZ ladies! I can imagine life stopping to just experience that!

Rain was so rare in the Gulf States that when it actually did rain...light drops...we let the children out of the classroom to feel it. The slow ones never got out in time!

LOL! I can only imagine how it's like to live a place where snow is "exotic". Will remember this when I shuffle 30 cm off my car each morning in a couple of months.

How exciting for you! Hopefully you can take a break and enjoy it. I am in no hurry to return to winter here but I would probably welcome a quick frost to wipe out the mosquito population.

That's kind of what it is like when we get snow in Tucson...it is very rare and does not really stick for any length of time. It does make for fun photos, though!

Just saw this and was logging on to see if you put another log on the fire and maybe even let the great furry one warm your toes... Enjoy...
