Default Paper trimmer?

Can anyone recommend a good paper trimmer/cutter? I have an old Fiskars with those tiny, little blade snap in thingies. I'm ready to graduation with something that is more of a precision cutter.

Suggestions are appreciated.

I saw a cool one at Costco....brand name is something like...Purple Cow. Funny I would remember that..huh!! It has the guillotine (not sure if I spelled it correctly) arm that you raise to cut the paper off...it has a ruler/graph on the flat surface. Reasonably priced.

I bought a Fiskars 12 in/30 cm Rotary Paper Trimmer with Titanium blades at Sam's Club last year because I was unhappy with my smaller Fiskars trimmer. It comes with 2 extra titanium blades which are supposed to last longer.

It says that it cuts up to 15 pieces of cardstock at a time. I have not tried with that many, but, I did use it with 5 sheets at a time when I was making calendar CD case gifts for my book club using Andrea's kit.

It takes up a lot more space on a table, of course, but, I like the results better.

Oh, I don't use paper trimmers anymore, but when I was doing hybrid layouts, I really wanted one of those Purple Cow trimmers with a gilloutine...

I have a fiskars rotary(?) trimmer, but I didn't like it because it doesn't cut straight all the time. It might be something I did wrong... Or that the titanium blades are better. But I'll choose a layer mask in photoshop over a paper trimmer anytime.

Uhg, paper trimmers are my arch enemy I had a fiskars and hated it. Ronnie bought me a guillotine one a few years ago, and it "works", but it still isn't right. I was using it a few weeks ago and it was folding the paper instead of cutting it, I asked Ronnie to figure out how to sharpen the blade to which he replied, "I can't, we'll just get a new one". So, I'll be on the lookout too, interested in the fiskars titanium, 15 sheets of cardstock sounds impressive

For the bits of hybrid I do now and then, I'm happiest with a Tim Holtz ruler and an exacto knife. I must say I do stab myself on occasion when I'm trying to hurry up, but otherewise I'm ok, and blades are cheap. (So are bandaids...)

It's the Tim Holtz ruler that does it for me I think. I love the varied guide lines on the ruler, and the metal edge. Tim really has a knack!

I use a Memory Makers trimmer at home its a full 12 x 12+ maybe an extra inch when opened it has a titanium blade that sharpens itself and never has to be replaced. It folds in half to be smaller when not in use... the down side is its heavy if you plan on packing it. Mine came with a magnetic ruler that comes in handy too...since the cutter is metal magnets can hold things in place for doing a tricky layout. I haven't used all the others mentioned I have about 4 different fiskars papr cutters pink breast cancer one orange one with circles - easy to carry but the blades are always going bad and I don't get smooth cuts like I do with the memory maker... I use it to trim all my 8 x 8 digital pages.

I've had a similar Fiskars one for 15 years. Quite a work horse. But you do have to replace blades and cutting beds regularly - and I'm too lazy! I've used the deckle cutter for card making. There's also a perforated cutter that got me very excited that I could now do tear-off strips, but I could never think of a good excuse to do any!!

Oh, yeah. The cutting beds - thanks for providing me with the word... That was what made it impossible to cut straight... Cause it used to "guide" the blade in the wrong direction.

If you want to spend a boatload of money on a trimmer, this one is supposed to be the Cadillac:

Genesis

There used to be a l-o-n-g waiting list, which I was on at one time when I was a paper scrapper. By the time my number came up, I'd switched to digital!

I got this one from Costco (love their return policy). I like it - especially the guillotine part!

I never heard of replacing the 'bed' or guide. In fact, I don't think I ever saw that part for sale. I'll have to go looking.

I am so with you! These stupid cutters always gave me nightmares, either it wasn't straight or it would "eat" the paper or chop it up. Boy am I happy with masks!!!

I've had two of the Making Memories trimmers - they sent me a replacement when the grid lines wore away on my first one. I've had numerous Fiskars ones also - not the heavy duty one though - that looks good. I have a Rotatrim cutter now --dh got it for me one Christmas. That one cuts straight, doesn't "eat" the paper but it a beast (size-wise).

I have a Fiskars which is probably 20 years old . . . it has a 12 x 12 cutting bed with great rule lines. I've replaced the cutting blades more times than I remember . . . and the cutting bed at least two or three times a year. Mine is now discontinued so I found some cutting beds on ebay and bought 2 dozen of them.

Well, my experience with paper trimmers is that unless they are very expensive they will drive me nuts. Otherwise they never, ever, ever cut squarely and true. This goes back to my school days when I used to print black and white photos from my dad's ancient Rolleiflex and dry mount them on heavy card stock.

My friend has one that I borrowed once-- the only paper trimmer that I would ever want to own. It cut square and true, the photos did not shift or tear-- it was a delight to use. I emailed her and asked her what it was. It is the Rotatrim Mastercut Professional Rotary Cutter. It is expensive, but if I won the lottery it is what I would buy.

I've had a CARL rotary paper trimmer for years. It has served me very well and I've never had to sharpen or change the blade. I could never cut straight with the smaller snap-in kind, so this was a great investment.

My DIL worked in the photo department of a Wal-Mart while she was in college and they used a CARL exclusively there if I remember correctly.
