Default Google didn't help so here I am with ?

Hard to believe I couldn't find the answer to What is a French Wallet? I saw a gorgeous Kate Spade one, and while I would probably never spend that much money, even on sale, it still isn't clear to me what constitutes a French Wallet?

On the same thought, does anyone have a specific wallet in which European bills fit well? My old old Clarks one is getting close to going to the glue factory and I want to decide while I have choices not immediate need.

I just googled too as I've never heard of the expression, it looks to be a square type wallet, rather than a rectangular one. I wonder if that's the only difference though?

I've come to the conclusion that in addition to being square-ish, it also has a change pocket on the outside. That I like esp when traveling in Canada or the Euro zone where coins are more important.

I have one, inherited it from my MIL, I don't like it one bit! They are square, your bills get folded in half and it's very hard to stay organized... I loved my old long one but since I am using a camera/hand bag now, I don't have that much room...

Yes, every time you pull a bill out of a French wallet, you inexplicably say "ca vaut le coup."

(translation = it's worth it)

Mine came with a purse chained to the zipper. Love it because it will fit in my front jeans pocket and I can attach to belt loop for safety.
