Question Backblaze and Crashplan Online Backup Services

After reading Debi's email this week about her hard drive failure I've decided it is time to get an offsite backup service. I'm looking at Backblaze and Crashplan primarily because EHDs are included (which is where I keep my digi supplies and ALL photos). Both are roughly $5 a month for unlimited storage. Both offer the option to "schedule" a backup versus it running all the time .. I would think if it runs all the time it would bog down the system. I would love to hear any comments, good & bad, about Backblaze and/or Crashplan if you use or have used their services.

Thanks!

We have a family plan for Crashplan, and use it on my iMac and his MBP. It took me about 2+ months to get all my stuff up there, not sure how long it too Dick. Remember that my Time Machine 2T ehd backs up my iMac and my 1T ehd that has 310GB on it now. I don't have my portable ehd backed up except on the occasions I use it on the iMac. It has duplicates of the stuff on the 1T ehd, nothing that isn't somewhere else also. (Say what you want but for $100 or so I'm glad to have those ehds. I finally convinced Mr. R to go that route too!)

We've never had to use it so the Crashplan "insurance" hasn't been tested by us. Thank Goodness!!!!

eta: Thanks SO SO much for asking this! I forgot to change the settings when I switched out the old ehd to the new one for my Time Machine. That 2T ehd was not on my list of backups. I also asked my husband if he had ever tested it out. He said he did when he installed it, had it back up a small amount and then did a restore. It worked just fine.

We both have backups done every day at 3am.

I also have the family plan for crashplan, using it to backup my Windows Home Server, PC, EHD with my scrapping stuff on it and my laptop. I backup up both to my home server, for quick restores, but also backup to the "cloud". Haven't had to test it, but it was very easy to setup and get going.

I have the family plan for crashplan and the backup to my EHD works fine, but I've NEVER completed my online backup. I know something's wrong, but my mom and I share it and I haven't managed to deal with figuring out WHAT. :P

I use Crashplan and I am still uploading, it takes forever. I just have it run all night because it does bog down the internet. We also have internet phone and it interupts that also. I hope that I never have to use it, but it is just like insurance.
