We watched the weather channel too Carol . . . Birmingham news is scary, isn't it. Prayers for our girls in Alabama and along this terrible path that the string of tornados is taking.

Sheila, I hope it doesn't land your area - as well as any other dd members.
My mom lives in Alabama, and so far so good for her. Last time I visited there, a tornado hit, and I couldn't believe how it could just snap trees in half, and demolish large cinderblock buildings - so powerful, and scarey.

All good at my house, thank goodness. I had it worse at my house last week, with hail and horrible lightning.
I can't pull myself away from the TV, seeing some of the footage from Tuscaloosa. And knowing my nephew has a tree in his bedroom is NOTHING compared to what has happened over there. And what has happened in other parts of Georgia and metro Atlanta. Everyone else ok????

Thanks everyone for your concern. I live in Birmingham and have relatives in some of the hardest hit places. Thankfully all my family members survived unharmed, but unfortunately we all know stories too close to home of those who didn't make it. My brother was frantically trying to make it home and the storm blew the windows out of his truck. My son moved out of a house earlier this year that was hit by the tornado, and the main highway within a mile of his brother's house looks like it has been bombed. We haven't heard the end of the bad news, I'm afraid.

Amy & Shelia I am so glad that you two are fine. Glad too that you are o.k. , Angela. I hear that Virginia was hit hard too.
Anyone hear from Deanie? Hoping that she is fine also.

So glad to hear that you and your family are OK Amy.
My sister and brother-in-law live in Tuscaloosa but were lucky and the tornado went through about two miles from their house so they didn't have any damage. My niece and nephew and their families live in Birmingham and all are OK. It's so sad looking at all the devastation throughout the southern states!

I feel badly....my nephew left Tuscaloosa and spent the night in Birmingham last night and will do the same tonite. The house where he was renting a room was damaged much worse than first thought.
The hotel he works at is going to put him up temporarily, but they have no power or water. And commencement at the University of Alabama has been postponed to August now, so the hotel that was all booked up for next weekend...well, that's a bust. We all just hope he'll still be employed. And my sister is just a nervous wreck over all this. Any Idol fans out there?? Lauren Alaina is from Ringold, GA and that town has been decimated. And poor Birmingham was hit much worse than I thought. I spoke to a customer today who was the only person to make it to work today. She was really concerned about some staff members who hadn't surfaced yet...she was hoping it was just due to cell service being knocked out. I feel fortunate...the storms bounced around and my home and business are still intact. |
