Default Sharon (shannamay) check in

There are terrible bushfires in Perth today. Over 60 homes lost so far. Just checking that Sharon is not effected. Anyone heard from her?

I'm ok, Sam. Family at school were evacuated - hoping their home is ok. Scary stuff!

Oh, it is so awful! This weekend was the 2nd anniversary of the horrible Victorian bush fires. Homes were burnt and people killed in my town. But ironically/tragically this weekend 50 homes were flooded in town by the residues of cyclone Yasi. The Mayor was telling me how difficult it was to address to the cityfolk about the tragedy of the fires and the people who'd suffered when we were surrounded by so much water. I am so sorry you are going through the horror of fires now but I am so glad that at least you are safe!

I'd say Australia is due for a break from the natural disasters. You've had more than your fair share of late. Glad you're fine, Sharon!

Was thinking about you last night watching this on the news, and hoping you were OK. Those poor people who have lost their homes.

Found out today that a cousin of mine + wife + 2smallboys + 4large dogs were evacuated but allowed back to the property today to find that theirs is the only house still standing in their entire street. Freakish!

How lucky your cousin was. I hope he is able to accept his freakish good luck without suffering from survivor guilt. It is something I had not heard of until the recent Victorian fires. Some people question why it was that they were spared and why others around them suffered and become very depressed about it.
Are the fires under control now?

Oh Sharon, my goodness, it's just the freak nature of natural disasters like this. Their angels were certainly looking after them.

Yes, under control, but as in other parts of the country - electricity still down in much of that area, and lots of danger from falling trees etc - you girls know well how that goes! Looks now as though upwards of 80 homes lost. There was another fire at the same time where families were evacuated - and that was just down the Canning River a bit from where we are - right in the middle of suburbia! We do have a lot of bushland along some parts of the river but still - seems so strange.

I'm so glad you are OK, Sharon. You bring the world news closer to home for me. One can only be grateful when we are spared some calamity. I feel for the people affected by fires and flooding in your country.

With all that has been happening in Australia, have been thinking about all you girls. So glad everyone is okay, and hoping that all will calm down soon. Mother nature can sure cause problems.
