Default the weirdest thing

so as many of you know we had to give up our newly adopted puppy before Christmas because my hubby was allergic to her. Well he has refused to accept this allergy as we have had dogs forever, so he has been visiting a breeder in the city and sitting with puppies and you know what? No allergy! What the heck?! With Stella, he broke out on day 2 and got extremely worse over the next two weeks, even affecting his breathing and with these puppies of the same breed nothing. I am so confused.

Stella apparently had something in her makeup that affected him. Sometimes there are just mysteries in life.

Had Stella been treated with any shampoo or flea treatment, etc. that the other puppies have not had? A friend thought she was allergic to their puppy, but changing the products solved the problem.

Allergies can be limited to a particular animal and I believe they can be developed, as well. I am allergic to cats and dogs, but there are cats in my life who don't bother me a bit. It's a hit-and-miss.

I am allergic to some animals but was pleased when we got Fenway (Black Lab) to find she was not a problem. The other day, DH went on a trip with a friend and his yellow Lab. When I got into DH's truck, my bronc's closed immediately and I couldn't breath. Just that one dog... same breed... different color. So sad for you and your experience but imagine it's not the end of a dog for you... you'll find one that fits.

I also meant to say, growing up I could bury my face in the fur of any dog or cat I encountered with no problem. For some reason, after moving to St. Louis, I encountered some environmental triggers that caused me to develop allergies. I had never had them before in my life.

The cat my parents had while I lived in Maryland did not bother me, nor did the three long-haired cats I had consecutively from '92--'04.

But after a year in St. Louis and two new cats, I could no longer pet or be around my parents' cat without a recovery inhaler. Allergies are a complicated thing, they can be triggered by, exacerbated by, or onset by all kinds of environmental stressors. Yes, he'll find a dog that works, hopefully!
