Default Southern gals check in while the blizzard is hitting you!!

I am watching the progress of the blizzard that is making it's way through the South and just saw on the Weather Channel the horrid back up on the interstates in Atlanta . . . and heard the reports on Alabama too. I know that there are lots of us from the South . . . and lots from states where the storm is pounding right now. The ice under the snow that I'm hearing about sounds perilous.

Check in from time to time to let us know that you are o.k.! Prayers from here for no power outages. Hope that you are all able to stay home and off of the roads. Stay warm and dry!

We were passed over by the snow---the radar looked like a hurricane with the eye right over Monroe. We are getting freezing rain and there is a danger that it will all freeze to black ice tonight. But the difficult part is we're having our big annual Pastors Conference starting tomorrow night with about 200 people coming from all over the country. Some from the east (Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee) have already called and said they aren't coming because travel is too dangerous. Airport delays are going to cause all kinds of problems, and my husband is the coordinator for all the speakers. I'm sure we'll be inundated with travel problem questions tomorrow.

More importantly, I hope everyone who is traveling stays safe, dry, and off the snow and ice. When I first lived in Mississippi I was driving home from work and slid off the road on some black ice, stopping right behind a car that had run into a ditch. I got out of my car to try to help them, fell, and found that I couldn't stand up---I skidded into the middle of the road on my belly and I had to army-crawl on my hands and stomach across a four-lane road to get to a spot where I could stand up. Cars passed me lying on the street, it was literally a miracle I wasn't hit.

It is dangerous, and if power goes out, many of the smaller cities---especially rural areas---in the deep South aren't equipped to handle massive power outages caused by ice on power lines. We have a gas fireplace and a gas water heater, and provisions for a few days, so we are blessed.

Stay safe!

Just walked back from a late dinner at my friends down the street. Easier to walk since it turned to snow. Magic, actually. Probably be gone by tomorrow afternoon.

Thanks for thinking of us. Hope you are not having too much Mollie.

We woke up to a beautiful fairyland this morning too. Our snow began last night around midnight. I don't think that we are destined for the freezing rain, so maybe the roads won't be too awful . . . probably not as bad as those of Patricia or Vicki it looks like. Hope that you didn't get too much of the ice where you live, Sarah.

Stay warm and dry girls . . . !

Thanks, Mollie - Thankfully we still have power and no frozen pipes here is West GA. I just touched the snow outside. I have never felt "frozen" snow - if that makes sense. It looks beautiful, but it is hard as a rock. The kids slept in this morning, but they will be so excited to go outside and crunch in this snow. You stay warm too!

Amy, we really dodged a bullet, too. We had steady freezing rain all night, and our grass and houses have a thin layer of this weird stuff. I've never really seen it accumulate, either. The roads have a sheen of ice on them but at least half of our speakers cannot fly out of their hometown airports today. Most of them connect through Memphis and Atlanta. Enough said.

I hope everyone stays safe. Drivers in the South really cannot handle ice and snow. Stay home by a warm fire! I plan on scrapping a LOT of pages today.

Hunkering down before the fire with all the kids home except one...he went to try to bring his girlfriend home and couldn't make it back. We got mostly ice! Thanks for asking Mollie!
