Default Heavy Heart

So we bought a sweet little puppy that we named Stella. She wasn't bought on a whim, we thought about it for a while, looked at lots of pics and finally decided on the beautiful little girl we purchased. She was adorable, she was seven weeks old. I taught her to sit, fetch and come when called in just two weeks. She loved to cuddle. We have had dogs, Jack russells for more than 20 years consistently. But for some bizarre reason my hubby was allergic to this dog He got worse with every day we kept her. Yes he took benedryl and it did help alot but the symptoms were still there. He was wheezing a bit and his eyes constantly itchy and watery. She hadn't even begun to shed yet! We had to let Stella go and break all of our hearts right before Christmas. We are so very sad. We are dog people. We have NEVER gotten rid of any dog for any reason, we stick it out for the long haul. This is devastating to us. I have so many sweet pictures of her and I can't even look in iphoto let alone scrap anything. My hubby is so distraught over upsetting the kids he can barely function and feels like the worst dad in the world. Somehow we need to rescue the Christmas spirit and piece our lives back together until we find another non shedding puppy but right now we are too sad and feel such loss over our baby Stella

Oh, how hard that must be. Maybe you could begin to see it this way: what a wonderful time of year for you and your husband to show your kids how to get through disappointments and enjoy these holiday moments, while looking forward to another precious addition to your family.
Big hugs to you all!

yeah we are trying really hard to make it a learning, positive thing. The puppy is at a wonderful home where they love her to bits, they call her their Christmas miracle so that helps alot.

Heather, I am sooo sorry to hear that! I know it must be especially hard on your dh, but, as a fellow allergy sufferer, I can completely sympathize. There are just some dogs and cats I absolutely CANNOT be around because they trigger my allergies and asthma. The trouble is that I cannot tell which one it will be. It is not consistent with breed, but varies. So frustrating. And I know the kids are brokenhearted. Hope you all find your Christmas miracle as well.

Perhaps you could look for a breed that has hair vs fur. Don't quote me, but I thought Doodles are a breed like that. My sister has 4 of them and I thought she mentioned that they were a good breed for people with allergies.

I'm so sorry this didn't work out Heather. I know how excited you were about getting her. Keeping your family healthy is most important and I'm sure you did the right thing.

That's such a shame. Hopefully knowing that you brought Christmas joy to another family will help ease the heartbreak of your loss. I hope you'll be able to find another puppy soon.

I'm so sorry this has happened to your family Heather, especially sad that it is at Christmas time. Remember that you have done the right thing for your family, and that you found a good home for Stella. I know that won't help the heartache. I hope you are able to find that Christmas spirit to get through Christmas, and may the new year find you the right dog for your family.

thank you all so much for understanding. I know it will be ok but those little fur friends dig deep into your heart. Her new owners have been wonderful with us, emailing pics of her with her new doggy siblings, she is doing great.

I'm so sorry! We had to do the same thing many years ago because I was allergic to our new dog. I'll never forget how I felt... Hugs!
