Default Lambs

My father (or rather his sheep) are getting lambs now. We popped by today to see the 50 first small wool thingies run around. And my daughter got to see one being born. She hasn't talked about anything else this whole evening. Just "The lamb came out of the mommy! It was so exciting!" She was fascinated!

Now, all that's missing is the question about how the lamb got inside in the first place.

Actually, I forgot. I guess I'm so used to this that it's no big deal anymore. But they will be getting lambs for another 10 days, so there's plenty of time I really should take my camera...

Oh, well, I have never seen it---so I got excited! My daughter has not yet asked that "how did it get IN there" question yet. She can explain the mechanics of a C-section delivery . . . so I guess we're getting closer to that day.

Ha....I just love sheep...we don't have any anymore due to the introduction of wolves into Yellowstone Park.

The nice thing about raising ranch children is that you never really need to have that talk....they see it first hand and know all about it. My biggest fear...it that they would tell all about it at show & tell...like in kindergarden....they never did. We called it "at home talk"
Too funny!!

Pam, we have many farmers in our congregation, and their children (and their children's friends) are very knowledgeable in those areas. I think that among the older boys, the question has been asked and answered. The girls are a little more naive, so we play along. I have been telling Bailey for years that babies come out of your belly button (why not? It's an innocent enough explanation!). A classmate who likes to know everything (and be the one to tell you everything) told Bailey, "They can cut you open and the baby can come out of your belly button, or they can come out of another hole you have down where you poop." The trauma of that explanation bothered her for at least a day---she came home crying, confused because she thought her friend was lying, and there is no other hole big enough for a baby to fit through!

We left it at that, and I've let her speculate. As far as I know, she's forgotten the alternative explanation.
