Default I make a terrible farmer

I was turning over my garden today so I could plant my cold weather plants, and discovered a bunny nest. I am not sure how they got there since I do have a fence up, but there they are. I covered them back up, so they would be fine. But they are in the MIDDLE of my garden. My brief searching on the Internet says they can be moved up to 10ft away, but it needs to be more like 20 to get out of the fence.
My dh of course suggested digging them up to "solve" the problem but I don't think I can bring myself to do it. So I can't really move them, but my garden would be toast with four to five baby bunnies ending being weaned at the same time my lettuce starts sprouting, all nice and protected inside the fenced enclosure.
Just one more sign that I could never be a real farmer!

I couldn't do it either! What bout 10 feet away from the middle? or maybe 15 feet? compromise?

Good Luck... curious of the decision when it is made...

Oh, I would have to leave them there too, maybe you could knit them some little bunny booties instead of gardening this year? Seriously, sorry about your garden, but do try and get some great photos!!

Bunnies are very sweet. I have an indoor pet one who keeps jumping up on my lap when I'm scrapping! And actually, he roams in the back yard and never eats anything from the vege patch. He does love camellia and wisteria leaves, though!

I couldn't do it either. I like Kathy's suggestion .... "maybe you could knit them some little bunny booties instead of gardening this year" ... lol, but I'm not a very good gardener and having something actually alive and thriving in my garden would make me very happy.

My garden would be toast for a year. I don't know how I'd deal with this, but I'd probably leave them alone.

Yikes..poor you! Well you are WAY better than me for knowing what you found!
If you leave the nest alone do they move somewhere else next year or do they multiply in the same location?

I had a bunny nest in a flower garden once - didn't know it was there and stepped on it and they squealed and I jumped out. Anyway make sure you don't touch them with your hands because my understanding is that the mother will abandon them if you do. A neighbor moved ours out but he used a shovel and very carefully got them out and moved them. They are awfully cute so I guess if you can't move them you will get lots of nice photos.

I'm no help here, either. I'd definitely cheer for the bunnies

how about a fence around them within the exsisting fence, and plant them their own lettuces and give them other scraps, rather than your families lovely vege sprouts?

Well, I checked on the bunnies and they are still alive, so my invasion with the rake seems to be overlooked. Our hope is that they will move once they get too big for the hole/depression they are in now. So I am forging on with planting, and will be fixing the fence after they are gone
My kids are a bit disappointed that they can't go in the garden anymore (there is no way I could keep them from stepping on the bunny nest, they just can't pay attention to what they are doing for that long)... but that's what I get for not fixing the fence last fall, huh? An ounce of prevention and all that.

The new bunny nest is still inside the fence, only it is right near the fence. The two nests are probably 15-ft away from each other.

It will be quite the sight when all of those baby bunnies come out of their nest to hop around for the first time. I hope I get a chance to see it

I sure hope they don't eat everything in your garden! We've already had some little creature nibbling on our okra leaves.
