Default According to the NYTimes, I'm a femivore, are you?

Apparently, according to the NYTimes, I'm a femivore: a highy-educated, SAHM, who dabbles in food preservations, gardening, keeping chickens, bread making from fresh-ground flour, and cooking wholesome, nourishing seasonal foods for my family. Although, when it comes to chickens I just ordered my chicks last week...

Any other femivores, homesteaders, foodies, etc out there?

a femivore....I have never heard that term!
I would, however, seem to fit the definition...minus the chickens :-)

I'm a part time SAHM who does more work from home than staying at home and well, everything else fits. Our coop is almost done and chickens are just a bit across town ready to be picked up But I must add the disclaimer that hubby makes the bread (and the beer).

I'll have to let you know about how the chickens turn out! We bought a lovely horse farm and it already had an existing coop, so it only makes sense--plus I am a homesteader at heart.
Katrina-you'll have to let me know how those chicks come out! How many are you getting? We are getting 14! And Beer? That's cool. Definitely haven't tackled that yet, but I do ferment kombucha, water-kefir, and sour dough. YUM.

And should I add I drink raw (farm-fresh) milk, make yogurt and sour cream. If it sounds overwhelming, it would be if I tackled it all at once, but I've been making the transition to self-sustaining or home-made or natural foods for several years. Every couple of months I add something to my routine (or let something go if we just didn't like it).

That sounds really interesting. A few years back that would have been
my dream but now I just want to sit at my computer

Our chickens belong to a friend, they are part of an existing flock that is over producing. We are helping to thin the flock and will have eggs right away. I'm vegan so won't be eating the eggs, but will be happy they are helping out in the garden.

Hubby will eat the eggs.

Did I add I live in the heart of the city? In the summer if mother nature is supportive we won't need to buy anything but grains for beer and bread!

I had no idea that so many our sisters here are leading such a totally admirable, cool way of living. I salute you all, but I'm with Anke, I'm afraid, I want to be by my computer. In fact I may be turning into a computer potato.

Yeah, I agree with Jen: That's pretty darn cool Katrina! I'm a long, long way from being able to only buy grain! Maybe some day...

Don't be too impressed, being vegan does make it much easier.

I was that 40 years ago, tho I certainly did buy flour and no chickens were allowed where we lived. However, free range eggs were the norm then in England. I did make beer and wine but gave that up as too much bother. Now, closer to a 'puter-tater too and happily so.
