I want to change the 'tone' of this thread while I can! Right now, Dick talked to Rich and Bekah is seeming to be on an upswing. Boy, that girl is fighting to live! I think all her time dealing with her full tilt energy brother has been a godsend for her stamina.
We have had poor cell service (yes, AT&T sucks...) while here in Hilton Head but Dick has sent texts to Rich just to let him know that calls are iffy. Each time Dick's phone rang though, our hearts kind of sank a bit til we saw the caller id. Fortunately, they were almost all business calls for Dick. While Bekah's incision is not sewn up yet, she has made a great deal of progress this past week. One real blessing is that Rich is on spring break and so he and Michael will be down in the apartment with Sharlah and each parent can take turns being at the hospital. Any semblance of normal is wonderful for them. Thank you - as always - for all your support and prayers. Y'all are wonderful!! xoxo Maureen

Coming out of the amnesia state must be a shock to Bekah but perhaps she'll stay unaware of the worst of it.
"Bekah is doing good today. They tried to feed again last night, but had to stop because she wasn't tolerating it. They are slowly weaning her off of one pain med that also has an amnesia effect. This is good, but also allows her to be more aware of what is going on around her and I know that she is having a hard time realizing that she's back in the hospital and unable to move around. They did unhook her from the dialysis machine for a short while which they do every few days and she was able to go for a short walk in a wheelchair. She wasn't too happy about it, but did it Once they hook her back up today she'll be in bed for a few days. They want to get her moving as much as they can because one of her lungs is still slightly collapsed and the movement will help. Please pray for her spirits to lift and continued healing. They are working on getting her on a different dialysis machine and once that happens she can move out of the picu. Please also continue to pray for her family and their strength and endurance during this slow recovery and Bekah's too Thank you all so much! My kids will be visiting Bekah tomorrow and I will hope to get a picture with her smiling! We'll see "There is also a photo on today's Caring Bridge site, but it's too small to copy here. CaringBridge / prayersforbekah / Welcome Thanks for the ongoing support and love...Maureen

It's hard to imagine all that this little girl has been through, and I know it's agony for Sharlah and Rich to see their daughter have to endure it all. May God's richest blessings be on them all.

This must be from Sharlah's friend. (The hosp computer is three floors down from Bekah and Sharlah doens't want to leave often. Sharlah is also unwilling to have wireless for fear it will hurt Bekah so most posts are written by friends.)
Bekah got to see her friends Tyler, Lacey and Austin today. My aunt was off today, so she and my grandmother accompanied us down to Tucson to visit Bekah as well. Bekah was still very tired, but did nod her head yes when we asked her if she wanted her next visitor! (we had to take turns because of the limit on the number of people in the room at a time) She said she wanted some more pictures of her and her friends to put near her to look at, so I plan on bringing some Saturday. She is finally tolerating her feeds!!! She is on 2cc's an hour, but it is definitely a start! They have stopped the suction on her ng tube and hasn't had anymore bleeding! The kids thought she looked good and were so happy to see her! She has expressed an interest in coloring!! The only problem is that unless she is bundled up in a little cacoon, she gets very cold and HATES being cold. Please continue to pray for her spirits. Right now she has to have socks on her little hands to keep her from pulling at her lines and she was very unhappy about that. Her creatinine level had gone up a little to 1.1, so please pray that her kidneys continue to heal so she can eventually go down on the dialysis (this would also allow her to move from the picu eventually). As always, prayers for her healing, strength, edurance and the strength and endurance of her family also. Michael is having an especially hard time being down in Tucson this week, so please pray that he deals with the situation better the rest of the week. Thanks so much for all your continued prayers.

Maureen, she is one truly amazing and strong human, as are her family and friends. I think all of the positive energy swirling around the universe for her has to be helping!
She is in my thoughts every day. Bekah...much strength to you, little one.

I continue to be in awe of this little one's determined spirit, her strength to keep up the good fight and her devoted family. I'm so sorry she has to go through so much to get well. I pray that down the line this will all become a faded memory when she returns to full health. Prayers and blessings on all of you keeping this vigil.

Merr, you said it. It's a vigil and I never thought of it that way. Thank you for that idea.

Maureen . . . your updates are watched for here . . . I have Bekah on my prayer list and on my heart and appreciate your attention to keeping us up to date. I grieve with hearing that she is down when one of your updates comes . . . but rejoice when one appears with you telling of a good day like this one. I know that your family is exhausted. Hearing of Bekah's spirit and her strength to fight is a wonderful thing. I continue to pray daily for her healing and for strength for her and her family.
