Thank you all so so very much. Yes, I am Bekah's grandmother (by marriage). I know we are so so fortunate that Bekah has another grandmother right there in AZ now. Sharlah no longer has contact with her own mother but does keep a close relationship with her father's former wife also. Even with divorce, there are the blessings of additional Nanas.
We went to Savannah yesterday, and each time Dick's phone would ring, my stomach would clench, and Dick would pull the phone from his waist and hand it to me. Use of the phone while driving has been a source of much 'discussion' during our marriage, but I knew he needed to keep it on in the car, and I also knew he needed ME to see that the call ...God willing...wasn't coming from AZ. That would have been a pull over Right Now moment. Today the news is upbeat...relatively... and yes, these peaks and valleys do take their toll even at a distance. Looking at the vastness of the ocean calms my soul and makes me think of the one psalm (?) where God asks..Where were YOU when I created heaven and earth??? That always makes me smile, and think...Oh yeah, I'm not in charge and there surely is a benevolent hand at work. Much love to you all... Maureen " Thursday, March 11, 2010 11:04 AM, MST Bekah is doing much better today! Her lungs have completely cleared, so now they believe that it was not pneumonia, but fluid retained from being taken off dialysis. They will begin the process of weaning her from the ventilator again Sharlah and Richard met with a kidney doctor yesterday and they will perform an ultrasound today to try and see if there is damage to her kidneys or to the tubes. If it is the tubes, then she will remain on dialysis while they heal themselves (4-6 weeks). If the damage is to the kidneys themselves, that cannot be healed. Bekah is more alert when she is awake and can focus more on everyone and can answer questions. She still has her hands restrained because she pulls at the ventilator. Overall, it is a much better day! Please be in prayer that they will find that there is no damage to her kidneys and that any damage they find is repairable. Please also pray that they are able to wean her off of the ventilator and her lungs continue to do well! Please continue to pray for Bekah's strength and the strength of her family. Thank you for all of your prayers so far! When it seems that things are taking a turn for the worse and the family is beyond exhausted physically and mentally, your prayers and the Lord carry them through! Thank you more than words can ever express!"

I've checked this thread a million times for an update...your latest news is positive! Bekah is surely the toughest little kid with such a strong will to LIVE. She is an amazing person.
I am envisioning her recovery and seeing the day that she will just be Bekah again...Love to you and your family, Maureen.

My heart aches for all of you and my prayers continue. I'm so glad for you to find a little time to listen to the sound of God's ocean. Let that sound embrace you and allow you to find peace even if it's a few minutes hear and there.
Love to you Maureen! Joni

I am so-o-o sorry to read this about Bekah ... how much more a little one could suffer... God willing and doctors helping... Maureen also I can suggest brining a small CD player and (if it's OK with the doctors) put some soft music for Bekah to listen... she is under sedation, but she can hear everything and this also will come her down... when my husband was in the coma after stroke, we played CD of Andrea Bocelli and Yanni (there is that ocean), and when he came out of it he told us about it...
Praying for Bekah and her family... |
