Default Spelling Mistakes!!! A bit on proofreeding(sp)

How would you feel if someone told you about a spelling mistake on your gallery post?????

There have been a few times that I've posted one of my layouts, only to see a silly spelling mistake after I've posted it. I felt so silly because so many people had looked at my layout thinking that I didn't know how to spell 'necessary' or didn't know the proper use of 'too' or 'to'. How appalling, I know. I wondered if anyone wanted to tell me about it, but didn't want to offend me. But what if I had printed it like that in my book! Oh, and I have done that already too.

Recently, I saw a proofreading mistake on someone's layout, they used sweat instead of sweet. You kind of lose the feeling of 'love' when someone is your 'sweat heart'. What to do???? I never said anything.

I want to know! TELL ME!!! Please!!! I want you to know that it's okay to correct my spelling, we are here to help each other. I want to know what everyone else thinks, correct or not correct - that is the question. What would you like to do when you see someone write 'loose' instead of 'lose'???

Thanks,
Janelle

Ack, this is my first posting - and ofcourse I put it in the wrong forum!! This is supposed to be non-scrapbooking related.
Sorry. Someone can correct me.... it's ok.

I have seen spelling mistakes or other mistakes too. Sometimes I tell the people, but I'm always afraid that maybe they mind. Gladly with the people I told it too, they didn't mind but appreciated it. I think I make mistakes, because english isn't my language and sometimes I have the idea that I didn't say it right. I also hope that people will tell me that. Great topic!

Ladies, I bumped this thread for you Sign up for typo notification

No one minds being told. I have PM'd a couple of people when I have seen them, and everyone is happy that I have done so. I would be happy for someone to let me know too.

Cheers
Sam

Edited for a TYPO I am a terrible speller/typer

I always PM people if I see a spelling mistake. There's nothing worse than paying to have something printed and then seeing the mistake afterwards. I know I would appreciate it and I've gotten nice responses from most of the people I tell. Go ahead and tell them.. if someone takes it the wrong way Oh Well

Janelle, that is hilarious. My FIL, who is a fairly poor speller, ordered flowers for his daughter years ago and signed the card, "To my sweatheart." That stuck with me for years. It's still good for a chuckle.

No one has sent me corrective PMs, I wish they would!!! I see many layouts where the scrapper uses "breath" instead of "breathe" almost consistently, but I don't want to be the person who points that out because I feel bad. I proofread as my part-time job and I always feel bad making the marks if I know the author will see my corrections.

But then again, I just ordered a 100-page $100 book last night from Blurb and I'm sure there are typos. I'll just cringe, then move on!

i think that we are a uniquely good-humored and reasonable bunch of scrappers. i can't imagine ANYONE who posts here being offended by a spelling heads-up!

Typos are the one HUGE drawback to digital scrapping. Once it's in print, it's stuck there!

I remember dozens and dozens of times finding journaling mistakes in my paper albums and having to find a piece of paper I could cut into the right shape to cover the wrong writing. Then I had to find the right flower sticker or whatnot to put over the corners so it didn't look like I had just plopped it there. I think I should have bought stock in the little decorative photo corner thingies, I bought them by the caseload at Hobby Lobby.

Then CM came out with those funky little tape rectangles you were supposed to put over just the word that was wrong, and it looked like a band-aid. I never could use those. By the time I was at the end of my paper scrapping days, I had started printing my journaling on my printer and putting that in my books.

I enjoyed reading this and thanks for the bump on the other thread to sign up for. I totally pride myself on catching my own typos. I did my kids' school newsletter for 2 years, and was determined to catch any typos before the principal could! LOL! But I miss quite a few on my layouts, and would appreciate the extra eyes, too!

Please tell me if it was me... I posted a picture with my baby a few days back and I have 'sweet little one' all over that page. I checked it again, but if I missed it, I WANT TO KNOW! lol

What, Kelly? You don't want "Sweat Little Baby" all over that page?

If I notice a typo I always PM the person, but I always kind of hold my breath hoping they don't mind. So far, everyone has been grateful.

All I can say is read more carefully girls. I've published layouts here with typos and no one has corrected me with a pm. Please feel free! I have mad my living as a copyeditor/proofreader and have even taught copyediting, but when it comes to my own words on my own layouts . . .

I wouldn't mind at all if someone told me -- either through the comments section or by PM. But some people might be more sensitive

I certainly want to know, please, please PM me. If I tell somebody I try to do it gently or with a laugh, I sure don't want to offend anybody.. I have a friend who finds my spelling mistakes on my blog after I post my pages, I "laugh" her
