Default Artsy Fartsy Stuff

There are so many of you ladies who consistently make your pages look like works of art. I am art-challenged, but have been asked to print and frame a photo for my school's art show fundraiser. The director asked me to find a butterfly picture, she doesn't have any butterflies on any medium and the theme is new life and resurrection. She feels butterflies are great illustrations of this theme.

I'm a little panicked; short of slapping it in a photo frame on a layout, I can't think of what direction to go.

I've attached the picture. If anyone can point me toward papers, brushes, textures, or something similar that I might be able to use, I'd appreciate it! I planned on printing a 6X6 or 8X8 stretched or mounted, not framed since a square frame is prohibitively expensive.

Thanks!

Sarah

Katie has those gorgeous botanical kits, I think some of them might be perfect for that. Or you could use Anna's ArtPlay Palettes to give it a more artsy look. I am not sure what you are going for... I would probably mask it into a pretty paper..

That's definitely where I was going to start, and I was thinking about Anna's ArtPlay palettes. I'm intimidated by them, I never know what to do with them. I think I'll start there and browse the gallery to see how people have used them. Thanks!

I don't know it this is along the lines of what you were thinking of Sarah, but I loved Aino's flutter page, and it's VERY artsy!

Yes I would spend some time in Aino's gallery. That stuff eludes me too... but I love to look at it =)

Goodness gracious, that is beautiful. I will have to camp out in her gallery for a while. Never in a million years would I have come up with something that artistic on my own.

Y'all have given me the inspiration and direction I needed!

I was going to point out the same layout by Aino. You could beautifully blend the photo, highlighting the butterfly. Add some butterfly stamps and masks from the store here or use an ArtPlay kit. I know you'll do a great job. You are a very talented lady.

I can't wait to see what you come up with Sarah cause I'm in the million or more years category myself. Now a grid block layout I can do but thinking along those lines?? "It don't come easy"

I think a lot of blending is a good bit of the answer and Anna's kits were the first thing that came to my mind too. (I also 'see' non-DD Vinnie Pearce and the TaylorMade ethereal layouts as guides.)

Anke, I meant to thank you for those paper recommendations! They are beautiful, and perfect. I used them as a starting point, though, because they are so out of my little box that if I bought them, I'd probably never use them. But I took some of Katie's other papers and incorporated some of my own word art to see how it looked. Thanks for taking the time to recommend those! They were very helpful.

Sarah, I like to be clean with my scrapping, too. But I was so drawn by Anna's artsy pages I decided to give it a go. I used the magical templates. Believe me, her masks and brushes make it SO easy.
I just did a search for butterflies. So many gorgeous masks and brushes!!

Esther, a couple of those might work . . . I wanted a little grungy detail on the corners, just a hint---Katie's butterflies might be the thing. I'm going to sit on it for a day or two and think about it. This doesn't have to be a masterpiece, but there is some pretty high-quality stuff in this show, and I want it to be something I'd be proud to hang and display in my home. Thanks!
