Default I'm teething...

I'm 30, and now I'm teething all of a sudden..! What is this?! (Ok, I know what it is, but seriously. At 30?) And it really, really hurts! Wish me luck sleeping tonight...

I would say wisdom teeth, though I have no personal experience. I have 5 friends who have had theirs out in the past couple of weeks, though. Seems to be "going around."

Ugh! I feel your pain (literally!) I just had all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed in January. Wishing you lots of luck with yours - I had mine for years, but the day finally came when it was time to be done with them.

Yes, it's a wisdom tooth. My dentist has told me that it was coming out, but he said nothing about it being so painful...

Thanks for all your kind thoughts... I'm chewing pills at the moment. It feels weird. I haven't taken any painkillers for about 15 years. Oh, well. Hope it will be over in a couple of days. It has come out in one corner now.

But how is it like to have them removed? Does it hurt much after that? And does it leave a big hole in your mouth?

Well, it entirely depends on how they are growing. There was not enough room for any of mine. Most came out OK and left a hole that soon filled with gum. One was stuck under the jawbone and part of my jaw had to be drilled and my tooth broken to remove it. It was quite a mess. I ended up with stitches for that one. I imagine there are many horror stories, but there are many more teeth that were removed with just a local anaesthetic and relatively simple extraction. An X-ray by your dentist will indicate what you will need to have done.

It does totally depend on how the tooth is situated. My lower left wisdom tooth was just pulled, no big deal. The other 3 were surgically removed, I was put to sleep for those and had stitches that dissolved on their own. It didn't hurt for more than a few days, and the 'big holes' (lol) healed quite quickly! Make sure you follow after-care directions, you don't want to end up with a dry socket. I've heard those are horrible. I hope you feel better soon!

Mine didn't hurt coming out with a local, but because the teeth are so far back, my jaw was sore from having it spread open so wide so long. I just don't have room for all the teeth I have/had in my mouth.

Did he say if they are coming in straight & if you have enough room left before your jaw bone starts? or if you need them extracted? It shouldn't really be so painful if there is enough room....that's why I'm asking

You can either be put under or heavily sedated for the procedure...whatever you prefer. They give you Codeine or Percocet for pain after but I was perfectly fine using regular Advil & Tylenol...as I have a Codeine allergy & hate taking pain killers if I don't need to.

The holes where your roots were totally resorb & the holes close within a few weeks. You just have to keep them clean of spices, etc and gargle with salt & luke warm water mix to prevent infection

I had all 4 of mine out at 19 under general anesthesia, as they were all impacted & pushing on my last molars (which would have eventually been very painful) and was a little puffy in the face for 3days but was fine to eat solid foods after 5-6days. I enjoyed eating all the ice cream, frozen yogurst, jellos and soups for a few days. Good luck!

I had them pulled out all 4 in one visit on purpose, a few years ago, just so I would not deal with it later... dentist will put one dissolvable stitch on each hole to close it... on the positive side ... it helped to slim my face down...
