Default Anyone for a wake?

My constant companion for the past 2 years, my digital scrapbooking "right arm" died yesterday. Yes, I'm talking about my 20" iMac. Apple Care tried to resuscitate it but to no avail. I'm hoping that their Certified Support Center will be able to reanimate my friend, but it's looking like it will take a "brain" transplant; i.e. a new hard drive. I have most of my material backed up to an EHD, but I've lost all my LOs from the last three weeks as well as my address book, my music, my latest LR exports, etc. I am seriously bummed! So on Monday, I will be up at 5:30 a.m. to drive two hours to get my iMac to the closest authorized repair shop. I'm currently using dh's Macbook (when he's not on it), but it just isn't the same -- not the same beautiful, large screen; not the same sweet mouse control; not the same extensive font collection. *sigh* I think I'll go have a margarita ... maybe two!

Tracy, you have my sympathy! That's awful news. At least you have Apple Care, right? Sorry about the 2 hour drive to the care center to get your Mac fixed up. We get so dependent on our computers.....I always wish I could own 2 at a time so that one is always there for me as a back up, but, that would be a bit expensive.

Good luck. Keep us updated!

Oh that's not good to be without it so long. Having to get a new hard drive after only two years is scary, hope yours gets fixed soon!

Oh Tracy...I had a sinking feeling when I read that post title, knowing none of us would be quite that flippant about a family member. But then our Macs ARE family members I think. I hope they can do a Lazarus on your 'loved one'.

One thing did hit me...I don't have my font collection backed up except in Time Machine. I hesitate to look at its size but perhaps I'd better and see where else I could back that up.

I do believe that a good Realtor would use distance to an Apple as a selling point. (I'm 2.8m or 56min if I had to put it on the luggage cart and walk!)

Well, after a bit of phone tag, Apple is sending out a tech instead of making me drive two hours to the repair facility!! YIPPIE!! (Ds wasn't too happy about that since that meant we would have homeschool. ;-) The part is supposed to arrive tomorrow, so I expect a call tomorrow or Wednesday to arrange a service call. Will let you know ...
