I am so sorry. Hope all is well by now. We are now tied to our computers maybe even more than washer and dryer, after all new underwear is everywhere. Praise be for Dr Apple - hope your boo boo is fixed soon!

I'm glad you don't have to drive 2 hours to get the Apple repair, Tracy. If it gets fixed fast, take a break from home schooling to make up for lost time with your scrapping! That will keep ds happy and you deserve some scrapping time after being without your computer.

Keep updating us!

Merr gently reminded me that I hadn't followed up in my post like I said I would. For that, I apologize. The tech did come out to the house and ended up replacing the hard drive. (No diagnostics, just replace the part.) That wasn't what I was hoping for as I lost about 2 weeks worth of scrapping and other things I forgot to back up .... like my address book and internet bookmarks. My iMac is running now, though I'm still having occasional hiccups, like Finder not working on my EHD files. Frankly, that's got me a bit jittery ... is it another internal hard drive issue, is my EHD dying or just a glitch? My confidence has been shaken quite a bit in my Mac, I'm afraid. But I'm backing up routinely now (remember to do address books and internet bookmarks!) and hopefully things will smooth out.

Thank you all for your understanding and your shoulders to cry on!

Tracy, do you use MobileMe to store all your contacts and email? I think I've heard enough lately about all computers to know their lifespan keeps getting shorter and shorter. Sadly, ALL computers.

(Reminds me to ask Dick about his use of the online storage he was pursuing.)

Thanks, Tracy!

As a Mac user since 1985, I was interested to know what you found out when the tech guy came to your house. BTW, I use Bridge to locate the files on my EHD.

I click on Computer over in the side bar of the open Bridge window and it then shows me what external items I've got connected. Then I click on the icon for my EHD and browse from there. I use the search function in that Bridge window. My items are not tagged, however.

I have not backed up Address Book and Internet bookmarks. Thanks for the reminder.

I'm laughing over what Maureen said about the realtor!

And, here is a question . . . how do I back up the bookmarks? I haven't quiet figuered out how to use the address book yet . . . I'm sure that directions are in my Missing Manual book . . . but, I need . . . neeeeeeeeed more hours in each day!

Mollie, I don't know how you would do it other than through MobileMe. We use that because Dick and I synch 5 calendars (and each have one other that we don't synch)! I stopped using bookmarks a lot as I use Delicious now more, figuring I can let someone else do the safeguarding. I've had so many work computers over the years that I finally said..Am I ever going to go back to these bookmarks (for most of them)? and the answer was No. So when we had our bi-annual upgrade, I said...Just leave em off, and let me start anew.

Tracy, I'm joining Laura in her prayer for resurrection! Love her dry sense of humor! Hope that technician works a computer miracle!
