Default A New beginning

Well its almost New Year here. We are taking our tree down on Wednesday ( i like to start the new year off with a clean house) and i am looking forward to a fresh start. I am not usually one to make resolutions, i kinda take inventory in the Fall, but i do like to pick a word for the year thanks to Ali Edwards. Last year my word was Change - wow be careful what you wish for!! It was a long hard year with my mom. I am thinking of a word for next year, do you pick a word?
I am hoping to get some scrapping done this week, but with 3 kids underfoot, not easy. Plus i need to paint the main bathroom on the weekend. Last night i had a million layouts running through my head as i drifted off to sleep and darn it this morning i can't remember any of them!!
I am sitting at my desk looking out at a beautiful winter scene. The snow is falling ever so gently and i can't help but feel peaceful and blessed. Life is good, even in the bad there is light. I am so thankful to begin another year, to start fresh, feel rejuvinated by possibility. Happy New Year my new friends.

I mentioned this to my husband just the other night that we both should pick a word. Won't tell you what his was! hahahahaha

As for me, mine is Organisation. I'm a typical Virgo in some aspects of my life, but personally at home I feel I'm all over the place. I was going to go with Simplify, but I think with Organisation, the simplifying my life I'm wanting also will come.

I love the idea of chosing a word but when I tried I came up with about 10 :-( There was an article in Women's Day (I think) about this woman who started a happiness project last year.. she chose a different goal for each month of the year.. As the months went by she added the new goal each month.. thought it was an interesting concept because it's like each month is a new chance to succeed.

BTW love the idea of starting the year with a clean house.. I always start the holiday undecorating on New Year's Day but I might have to try this.

Happy New Year Everyone !!!

Heather, I just loved reading your email . . . it made ME feel peaceful and blessed! Thanks for sharing.
This year will be my 10th anniversary of surviving cancer, so my word for 2010 will be gratitude. It's a word I've forgotten a bit of the significance of as the years have gone by.

i'm going to go with humor as my word this year. appreciating funny things that come up, but also trying to find the humor in events that might otherwise be considered irritating. i've tried to do that through december and found it helped me keep my cool better.

When I think of a word I get "patience". With three kids four and under, short of cloning myself that will be the word. Patience in getting the house clean, patience in saving enough money to fix up the house, patience in getting my scrapping finished... oh, the list goes on!

Happy (almost) New Year!! My word for next year is "focus". I am always running in a million different directions and don't seem to accomplish anything...plus I want to really work on my photography skills and my word works rather well there too!!

Can you have two? Mine are "minimize" and "appreciate". I am going through a major purge in my home, and I want to appreciate fewer things at greater level. Carol - I think you and I are feeling the same way.

Kathie, this is "my" word as well! I do not want to take on anything new, but rather FOCUS on what I already have, finish things I've started, delve deeper into the things I am already doing (like photography) and take everything I am currently doing to new levels. I want to FOCUS on the important and eliminate the wheat from the chaff.

Good Morning everyone-
Last year my word was Serenity-to find peace and contentment-and I think I had some moments-I do believe that I am more able to accept the things I can change and the wisdom to know my limits- anyway, I think it will be ongoing-I think last year, I chose a word that I will always have to be aware of and work towards.
This year, my word is Balance. I will have to work diligently to achieve this and stay on top of everything that 2010 will bring my way.

What a great thread. So nice to read everyone's word. My word for 2010 is LIFE. I want to experience it, enjoy it, live it, celebrate it, appreciate it and most of all to let the beauty of it flow around me.

Well you've all convinced me that since I wasn't able to come up with just one word FOCUS might be a good idea :-)

I am torn between EMBRACE and CONTENTMENT. I want to pay attention to embracing my life and circumstances as they are without getting stuck in regretting recent losses or resisting the changes that are to come. I think I like the verb better, so that's where I'm leaning.

The word for 2010 is going to be Reduce, I can use this word to help reduce
paper stash, clutter, untidiness, overcommittment, weight, consumption......the list can go on.
I was pleased with 2009's word Calm as I didn't panic too much with the traumas of elderly father in law being repeatedly hospitalised and needing to be moved into nursing care, plus redundancy for dh, plus orthopedic surgery for me and my husband, mine because of ski injury and his because his hips haven't worn too well.
Didn't keep up with the intended scrapbooking with all this but remained Calm about it.

Mine is a phrase..."live in the moment." I tend to worry, fret and think of all kinds of things while I should just be fully engaged in what I'm doing at the moment.

I love reading all the awesome words you ladies are choosing! They are so inspiring! I think my word will be gentle. I hope to be more gentle with myself and others-not so judgmental or unbending. It was kind of a tough year for my family and a kinder gentler 2010 would be wonderful.

Love all the words, and especially the thoughts behind them.

Last year my word was 'connect', and it was great as I made more of an effort to keep in touch with friends and family.

This year I'm thinking of 'give' though I'm also tempted by 'focus' as I seem to have been incapable of focussing on anything lately.

My word is SIMPLIFY, much like minimize, I just thought of simplify first. I am tired of thinking I need the latest anything, or that I need to do everything. I want more time for meditation, spending time in prayer, exercise, reading, SCRAPPING, and letting go of all the stress that I have let run my life the past few years. It sounds selfish, but I haven't been much good to anyone in my stressed out state - since I have started to let go, I have found more energy to be there for others and enjoy it. SIMPLIFY - I feel a LO coming on!
