Default Starting off the year right

I have a redundant drive system (thanks to Pattie Knox's recommendation), but I thought I'd take today and make sure my backups are up to date - in triplicate. Photos are so precious. I've had one scare and thankfully was ok. It will never happen again. So I'm copying everything I hold dear onto yet another external.

All of you good on backups? Have a system for 2010?

I'm backed up. I just bought a second EHD so I always have two good back ups.

I am going to clean off my hard drive of all the "old" .psd files and put them on DVD's.

Maureen,

I have no idea how many will fit on a DVD. I just got the idea from postings at DD--some people back up to DVD. I'm just going to file them by date.

I know...I need to do it! Tomorrow...or maybe tuesday? It's such a huge, tedious chore. I will do it though.

My average LO is between 250-400 MB. So, let's say they average 300 MB each. That would be between 12 and 13 LOs per DVD. It takes a lot of discs to back up my PSD files. That's why I usually only archive the flattened files. I figure in an emergency, that's what I would want more than anything else.

Santa gave me a 1 TB Toshiba EHD, so I'm not worried about space any more. My little 120 GB is about to give up the ghost permanently.

I usually try to back up each month onto a dvd. I include any psd files, jpeg files, photo files, and zip files of downloads for the month and can usually get everything onto 1 or 2 dvd's. I keep my monthly files on my ehd and also keep the photo files on my pc until I have them backed up onto disc.

Thanks for the reminder Myra! Santa brought us a new home server, with a reduntant system, so we are all backed up! BUT.....I think I will try to still put stuff on CD/DVD and bring it to my moms house...just in case. I'd hate for something to happen and they were all in one spot, kwim??

Ok, I can see doing a month's worth at a time easily. (grrr...it's the backlog that's always a pita!)

I am pretty bad at backing up.....

I have one EHD and I have loaded up to Picasa albums and I will now get a Pro Flickr account - thought I could use that as a backup.

I back up to carbonite, which has been a great blessing to me on a couple of occasions, but they don't do EHDs, which makes things complicated. I was going to shift to Mozy but they told me it would take 2 months to make my first backup. As I wasn't sure I should run Carbonite and Mozy at the same time, that would leave me unprotected for two months. So I'm not sure what to do for my final system.

My system for 2010 is much the same as my system for 2009. My husband regularly backs up my computer on my spare drive. LOL Lucky girl am I.

This is a good reminder to everyone, Myra.

I'm so paranoid after watching my neighbor's house burn down, that I back everything up to 3 EHD's and have an account at smugmug.com.

I have two EHDs with various backups going on on each as well as backing up to Backblaze.com. Digi purchases and completed PSDs of layouts go onto DVD, as does my iTunes library. I think I'm good.

I have a scheduled back up to EHD everyday; also to Mozy (online); and every couple of months I copy everything to DVDs. I'm a little obsessive about it after having a computer totally crash. Thankfully, that was before I started digitally scrapbooking.

Ok Myra..you did it. I saw this thread and thought I would be so unhappy if we had a computer malfunction. What is worse is we have had Time Capsule sitting in the box for oh I don't know 10 MONTHS!!
I spent the day figuring it out and now 2 of the three computer are backed up. The third will back up tonite.
So I owe you a HUGE thanks to get me going. Now any encouraging words to ensure I do a photo a day would be highly appreciated!!
