I have the 24" and you're right, there is a lot of space. I have my mouse on a small keypad holder and keep having to shove the keypad over with my wrist, especially when I'm doing some delicate operation in Photoshop - and that's a lot. I thought it was the lack of space in that area, and not the large screen, I'm used to this now so it doesn't bother me, but I can see how it could be a problem with an even larger screen.
Now I think about it I might try my wireless mouse in a larger area on the desk itself. ----- See what you've done Pam? Brought attention to this and now I'll be thinking of it as a problem, lol! BTW, I love the 24' large screen and would love the 27" even more! |

Pam, I have a 27" iMac and ABSOLUTELY LOVE it! Everything is so much easier to see, and I adore the larger viewing size as it makes everything wonderfully vivid. It does take up a bit of real estate on my desk, but as far as keeping up with eyes and mouse -- no problem. I have a wireless mouse that I roll across my desk, and there is no problem with having to roll it too far to have it cover the screen. In fact, to roll from one side of the screen to the other horizontally only requires a mouse move of about an inch or inch and a half. And because of the large screen, I can sit back a bit more and take the whole screen in with my eyes.
HTH!

Mine is a macpro but with a 28" screen. I wondered what I was doing when I first set it up but no longer. The larger screen is so kind to these old eyes. I think it is very adaptable. FYI... was on my mother's 17" monitor yesterday and it was such a strain. I say, bigger is better! Mouse/stylus not a problem.

I "only" have the 24" and I had issues with the mouse till I went wireless. I have an Ikea dining table as my desk and the only size issue I've had is getting the monitor back far enough so it's not in my face. Depending on the season and the amount of light coming in this room, I have had it on the angle at the end of the table. I was used to that kind of set up at work for many years and liked having my arms and wrists ON the table.
I will admit, I have never taken the time to learn Spaces which is great for keeping various screens open at the same time. I had it going once but it went when I cleaned the hd and I've not bothered to set it up again.

I'm only on a 23" and I would welcome a 40". Seriously. You can multi-task so much easier with the extra screen space. Also, if you're using a Wacom, you can designate the active area on the tablet, so your hand doesn't have to move anymore than it would on a smaller screen.
GO FOR THE BIG MONITOR.

For me my 24" screen iMac just sitting near on the desk... I can get a gripe on turning it on and start scrapping on it... the screen size IS VERY OVERWHELMING I have to push away far... so it won't give a headache...

My parents have a 27 inch imac and love it. I am living with them right now, so I end up using it quite a bit... it is wonderful! I am like Cassie and think a 40" screen would be great! I say, go for the 27", you won't regret it.

I just got mine this month and love it. If a window looks too large for you, you can just make it smaller. The detail you can see is so nice. Also I can work on a layout and have Bridge open in the background, looking through supplies in Bridge against my page without having to open them one by one. It's easy to see the names of the supplies as you work too.

I analyzed my mouse work and it's only when I want to draw long areas with the mouse or scribble all over the page, when my mouse "pad" isn't large enough. I doubt it would interfere with regular scrapping. I can't use the pen because I have thumb area problems, not wrist. |

I got my 27" last month . . . it was overwhelming at first and I thought "oh no, I'll never get used to this"! But, now I love the size of it . . . love that I can open several screens at once and actually see them.

I guess I'd have to see someone use it to see the usefulness of it. I just went and looked at Macs this week and couldn't imagine wanting the 27". It's more of an issue of wanting to be farther away from the screen for me, I think.
