I always pipe up on these threads, and am always the odd man out!
I scrap pretty strictly chronologically. I have my photos on my computer in Organizer, ordered in folders by the date or event. When I want to scrap, I wander through the Organizer and find photos from this year I haven't scrapped yet. Then I wander through the gallery here, find something I want to lift, and I proceed. When I paper scrapped, I used to sketch all my LOs in a notebook ahead of time so I would know exactly what I was going to do. I'm much more loosey-goosey with digital. But I am so strict about my chronology that I won't scrap a more fun event until all the year is done before it. So even though I'm dyin' to scrap my Thanksgiving pictures, I won't do them until I'm caught up with my yearly book and my Project 365 book.

Well what I have been doing lately is opening a new folder in my Photo Impact Program. Just like Im going to make a new layout. Then I just add the photo in there and Save. ( if at that moment I know what element or paper Im going to use I just add it too) until I have time to scrap it at a later time.
Sometimes while creating a layout I get a brain storm and do this. It works for me. But I dont have a book or anything like that saying Im going to scrap this or that., it mostly what comes to me at the time. ![]() Organizing...hmmm. I might try this out next year I do have a sketch book, (which is nothing but a sketching) I dont write down which photo Im going to use for that sketch or anything like that. . I just go by the moment of how I feel...and I dont write down Im going to scrap this photo next and then this photo next or anything like that. I jump around when scrapping. (But All my photos are in order). But If Im going to do particular album then I do nothing but that album. I dont work on anything else. Wierd huh..heh Last edited by nativescrapper; 12-03-2009 at 05:24 PM.. Reason: I couldnt even understand my own wording..hehe |

I am kind of like Sarah although I will jump around within a certain time period. I use Organizer as well...I think it came with Elements when I got that way back when. Now I use photoshop. I think there is a better way now to manage your photos but it works for me. When there is something that I want to scrapbook, I write the date down, what happened, and quotes down in a paper notebook. Then I go back & decide what pictures I want to do with the page. I also having an ongoing list of pages that I want to do...all of this is on paper. When I am ready to put the page together, I just refer back to my notebook and the fun begins!

I keep all my ideas in a journal... but I am a chronological scrapper too. Everything is uploaded through Lightroom with dates. I just put a little "s" in the title if I have scrapped that event. But, I have to keep things in a journal because I like to write the funny details and I like to sketch things as ideas began to flow so I don't forget!

I am a terribly organized person - I don't think I could scrap without a list!

I keep a folder on my desktop called "To Scrap" where I put current photos I want to make sure to scrap some day. Scanned photos for heritage pages go in another folder.
I keep a sketch book with blank pages where I jot down ideas and sketches for pages. When I plan an album, I make a list of the ideas for the different pages; usually more ideas than I am actually going to use. Those lists are kept in the same sketch book. For some reason, I like jotting down ideas and drawing sketches with pens and markers instead of keeping the list on my computer. I will drop all plans, though, to spontaneously scrap something if a new idea pops in my head or I get inspired by an idea or a challenge in the gallery here. I do not scrap chronologically, but, the pages I make for grandchildren go into separate albums on Shutterfly for each child and those are arranged in chronological order, even if I didn't scrap them in that order. I've been ordering albums yearly of those pages.

I've been going through 09 photos to see what ones I missed and have made a list from that. It's written in a notebook by my computer. also have lots of unfinished .psd files. Sometimes if I have an idea or a sketch for something I'll just make a .psd file with the sketch or rough idea only and pop it into the unfinished folder. That way I'll know I'll come across it again at a later time.
I do what Merr does when it comes to chronology. I don't scrap in order but I do order family books from Shutterfly every year. (which is why I'm going back now to see what photos i've missed this year.) |

I scrap chronologically. I also keep a journal so that I don't forget details just because I'm a bit behind. And, sometimes I take photos to remind me of things to scrap!
I download 3-4 months of photos from my photo computer to my laptop, sort what photos/events are worth scrapping, compare to the journal to make sure I don't forget anything, and then get to work. It pains me to go out of order. But - I am starting to think that for 2010 I will do one month at a time, so Jan 2009 same time as Jan 2010. But I'll have to see if I can live with myself if I try that.

I have a small notebook where I sketch layout ideas and things that should be scrapped. Sometimes ideas end up on small scraps of paper too!
![]() And after I have worked with photos in Lightroom, I have a folder with photos to scrap, where I can go and get them when I am in need of a photo or a story. Otherwise I peruse my photofolders (which of course are dated) and then pick from there. I am, I guess what you would call... semi-organized.

I scrap list through word docx. It all started because I would journal there for spell check and it just grew to a folder where I would write down all ideas. Some get scrapped and some don't. I tried the IRL journal/scrap note book but for me it all starts with the journaling and word works best for me.

I am a bit disorganised now, but I do have a folder and when I download the camera, any scrapworthy photos I put a copy in that folder and just delete them when I've scrapped. I've also got a list of nice quotes I've seen along the way, and lists, etc. But sometimes a fabulous kit comes out and all of that goes out the window as I look for something perfect to use with it.

It's interesting to see how everyone lists their ideas. I spend a lot of time restoring older photos and slides that were badly taken, damaged by mold, or were handled poorly. As these get done I usually want to scrap them. My children are getting a kick out of pictures of themselves as children or babies that they never really got to see before because the photos were too red or dark.
When I take photos of the grand and great grand children, these usually get priority at that time to be scrapped. So I don't make lists of ideas or priorities, but with some really good reading and excellent ongoing classes I've been taking this past year, I'm learning better and speedier ways to do the restorations, so maybe I’ll be a bit quicker with the scrapping in the future, and then I can get to make lists. |

It is wonderful to read this post and get such great ideas. I thought I had a method of lists that was working, but then took Anna's "Album Magic" class which was EXCELLENT!! Learned so much from her and spent some time putting a folder system together for myself. Just having that organization in place has already started the creative juices flowing and now I have a place for all those ideas to go until I can get to each one of them. I think we just have to try things until we find what works for brain and our creativity process. Having made the switch from paper scrapping to digital scrapping has also required a change in organizational thought for me and I think I have found my method now (Thank you Anna!!)
