Default Christmas Music

As some have posted threads on favorite holiday books I thought I'd see what your favorite holiday CDs are. I buy at least one a year (if not 2) and I think my absolute favorites are Sarah McLachlan's Wintersong and Christmas Offerings by Third Day. What are your favorites?

I only have a favorite song-Carol of the Bells-does anyone know of a good version of it on a collection cd?

I'm a HUGE fan of Big Bad Voodoo Daddy's Everything You Want for Christmas, yes nontraditional but super fun and brings out Ian's dancing feet.

My two favorites are both old, but they are great. Martina McBride's Christmas - full of classic songs - her peaceful, clear voice is PERFECT for Christmas music.

The second is Gary Morris' Every Christmas - ok, so he couldn't sing country, trust me, nobody does Christmas better than this opera/country singer. If you can find an old copy of this, snatch it up!

Will have to look for Sarah McLachlan's, I love her whimsical voice, seems like it would be great with Christmas music.

Big Bad Voodoo???? Katrina, maybe it is just a tad bit non-traditional - lol - but you can bet I will be looking it up and listening to it just because you have made me VERY curious!

My favorites are all three by TransSiberian Orchestra 1) Christmas Eve and Other Stories 2) The Christmas Attic 3) The Lost Christmas Eve. Christmas Eve and Other Stories contains the Christmas Eve (Sarajevo) that you've probably heard on the radio. Enjoy!

I second Charlie Brown Christmas. I can't have Christmas without A Carpenter's Christmas, my absolute favorite album.

I'm about to record my piano performance of Charlie Brown Christmas on a CD for my family---I love Vince Guaraldi!

Lorie Line has a beautiful Christmas album, too, I don't remember the name of it, but it has a great arrangement of Carol of the Bells.

I bet you could find a whole CD of just that song---or go to iTunes and download a bunch for fun!

Ok, I LOVE Sting's Gabriels Message and I actually have some Sufjan Stevens. I'm a big fan of Charlie Brown Christmas (that may be my song for my Dec Daily book), I bet Martina is fabulous with a Christmas carol, I'm a huge Andrea fan and I'll have to look into TransSiberian Orch. Katrina, if you want your little guy to dance you must get Christmas in Hollis by Run-DMC).

Omgosh...such great suggestions. I just heard a Martina Mcbride Christmas song on the TV seasons station. It is good.

I ditto the Sarah McLaughlin but my all time fav is the Muppets. I LOVED the Muppet's and Jon Denver Christmas special.

Great thread. TFS!

I love all of these suggestions, I must say that I'll listen to anything Christmas, except the redneck christmas CD that DH seems to thing is the best. The last few years, I have been stuck on Sirius Holly, all christmas channel. You get a little of everythig there.

hmmm..reminder to get the box of Christmas cds down, then head to Itunes for some sampling. The YoYoMa one appeals to me.

I'm a Windham Hill woman...
Winter by George Winston for some meditative time
the Winter Solstice series
the Narada Christmas Collections
Manheim Steamroller (a friend gave me one of these my first Christmas back in the US in 1986!)
and any of the New Year's Day Concerts in Vienna...tho those are FOR New Year's Day till I drive Dick nuts.

As you can see, I prefer instrumental but then there is the Rounder's "Must Be Santa" which has Christmas at the TripleX Ranch and a bunch of other off the wall songs.

But my all time favorite wacko one is a song that I had a very hard time tracking down for about 10 years. Finally one of my Artist Way peeps said Wait..and sure enough on her computer, there it was. She worked in a waycool record shop in college and her bf used to find these weird ones for her. The song? Christmas at K-Mart by Rootboy Slim.

Jars of Clay Christmas Songs is my favorite. Another not yet mentioned is Mindy Smith's My Holiday--she has a gorgeous voice. And every year I must listen to Art Garfunkle & Amy Grant's The Animals' Christmas and Graham Kendrick's Rumours of Angels.
