Default Friday 13th blues!!

I'm NOT in the least superstitious so Friday 13th never bothers me but it's not been a good day! First thing was sickness cover for a class, but that's not unusual and no big deal so I covered - second thing was that our college's very pompous health and safety officer with an even more arrogant visiting Fire inspector threatened to 'shut down' all 4 of our mac labs....can you imagine how that would impact on the students...my boss was incandescent with rage I'm not going to bore you with the reasons for the H & S guy's threat, but trust me - It's no big deal ... and then a bit more stuff happened I could have done without... but hey, that's the job and nothing to do with Friday 13th.

Then I got home - and couldn't actually get into our house because our MAD mail delivery guy had decided to slam shut our storm doors to protect our mail and now no one could get into the house!! - I mean WHY would he do this? Who wants to run up our path in a safe suburban area and steal our crappy mail consisting of free mail order catalogues and information about bowel screening ( true!) and even if there was someone who wanted to break into our house - it's up to us to lock up - not Mr. anal-lock-up-postie to decide!

I was so ANGRY!!! I was tired, it was dark and damp so I tried to kick the door open - then I went to our local police station and asked a young woman police officer if she could arrange for someone to kindly break into our house! - I was thinking I needed the kind of equipment that they use when they are doing a drugs bust, that big thing you see on crime TV when they bust open the door in two secs...I was imagining two large guys with a battering ram kind of thing forcing their way through our storm doors; but she looked at me as if I had arrived from Mars - or channel MAD... I mean, HELLO, doesn't she watch television??

During my explanation about the mad postie and my plans about how they/police could help me get in to my house ( ... to blank police officer) my DH rang me to calmly let me know that he had arranged a locksmith to come to the house...trust him to be soooooo sensible - so I just smiled sweetly at her and said (threatened?) I would be back if the locksmith didn't get us in....I'm sure I saw her smirk...

Well, after waiting around two hours ( in our friend's house with lots of sympathy and red wine ) the locksmith arrived and voila - we are in..........

Just had to vent...

Fiona

....and you say it has nothing to do with it being Friday 13th?
We from Olde England just lock the doors from the inside on the 13th and don't open them until the next day!

Oh, and I'm really sorry you had such a lousy day!

oh Fiona, I didn't mean to laugh out loud when I read your post, but I was envisioning you at the police station....so sorry you had a crappy day, glad you had some wine and that you finally got in your own house.

(((hugs)))

Sorry you had such a rough day. I always dread Friday the 13th, I just know sooner or later something crazy is going to happen.

I decided to push my luck and purchased a lotto ticket on my way home, one set of numbers, from my fortune cookie at lunch and one computer generated.

Oh Fiona I'm so sorry you had such a bad day but really I was doubled over laughing at the visions of you in the police station and the very serious young police woman wondering if she should call the men in the white jackets... hope it helps that you certainly brightened several peoples day with your story :-)

I'm sorry for your rotten day, Fiona. I can just imagine the young policewoman's face during your explanation. I think as part of your therapy you should turn this experience into a layout as only you can!

Ah Fiona, you have the narrative and with one shot of the door, one of a calendar...and there you are. I must admit I had a good laugh...mostly because it wasn't happening to me!

Sorry you had such a terrible day! (Please pardon me for chuckling just a bit...I could totally seeing this happen to me! Once I locked the keys in two vehicles side by side. Imagine my embarassment when the locksmith came and I had to ask him to open TWO vehicles not just the one!)

Oh, Fiona ... so sorry that your have had such a "horrible, no good, very bad day". I love your mad antics ... just your explanations to the police ... love that you have made so many of us smile through your troubles!

Keep it up ... we love reading!

I think I will have a glass of red wine in your honor - thankfully, Friday the 13th doesn't come around all that often

What a shocker! Not much gets me angrier than having to wait for something senseless. Well I hope all your days since the 13th have been much better. How's that postie going???!
