Default Dish suggestions...

I am cooking challenged and have to bring a green vegetable to Thanksgiving dinner at my aunts... anyone have any favorite recipe that even I can do?

how about something you don't have to cook?

Broccoli Salad

1/2 cup celery diced
1 small onion diced
1 pound cooked bacon (cut into small piecesand cook til crispy)
1/2 cup raisins
1 can water chestnuts diced
broccoli ( I usually get once bunch of it) just use the tops

mix 1 cup mayo, 1/4 cup sugar, 1 TBS vinegar.

Mix it together and chill.

some of my friends make it without the onion.

Green bean bundles are also good, but they're a little time-consuming. There's not much cooking required. You don't have to use a toothpick to hold the bacon on, just wrap it around the handful of beans.

You can do this with fresh beans for a more festive presentation, just steam/boil the beans to desired consistency on the stove, cool, and proceed.

Sarah, yum. I'm going to try these. Anything with bacon is good in my book.

Lisa,

We had an impromptu dinner at a friend's house at Christmas last year, and she made these. Strangely enough, I had never had them---I tend not to like the italian-dressing marinated beans, and that's what I thought they were.

So good! And I love how they're a portion, so you can count how many you have and fix how many you need. Most people probably eat 2-3 bundles.

My vote would be for the green bean casserole too. Really easy to dump, mix and bake. Recipe is always on the French's onion can.

I love 'the idea' of the broccoli salad but has anyone ever had a variation that doesn't use mayo? Maybe substitute sour cream? yeah, I'm the one who can't abide mayonnaise, I'm afraid.

Oven roasted asparagus would be my suggestion tho I do admit to liking the old-time, not so good for you, green bean casserole.

I realized as I closed that post that you are in a hotter climate Elena. How about Aspargus Mimosa, green and cool. (can you tell I like asparagus? even if it's coming from Peru this time of year?) Asparagus Mimosa Recipe at Epicurious.com

What about Broccoli Rice Casserole - I make mine with tons of broccoli (coz I love it). But Green Bean Casserole is always a hit.
I also like marinated asparagus with feta cheese & italian dressing - served cold.
And Terry's dish is one of my favs. When we have that at church, I always get a 2nd helping instead of dessert!
