Oh poor Hayden. I am so sorry for him because I recall a similar incident in a day care center with a hamster. The children learned a lot more than they had planned that day. I think lots of hugs will help him through this hard hard lesson. A big hug for Mommy too.

Oh, I'm in tears for him. Those things should NOT happen to kids (I know he's not a kid, but well, he is). My heart breaks for him and you are right, sometimes these things just happen. Just give him hugs, Mary.

I am still tearing up about this...
none of us slept much last night - I really hated sending Hayden to school, but he really needed to go after they were closed for 4 days last week because of the flu I really hope it doesn't take long for us to get over this, but I know it will. I just can't get it out of my mind and I know that my sweet son can't either. kelly, you are right, he is just a kid and this never should have happened. I think that is what is the hardest for my dh - Hayden has never seen him cry before - but seeing the distress my son has experienced is harder than we ever could have imagined. tomorrow will be another day I can't wait for today to end

Tears in my eyes... so sorry your son has to go through this. A parent's comfort is the best medicine and I'm sure you will all pull through. Big hugs.

Oh Mary....poor Hayden!
I had something similar happen when I was 14yrs old. I was sleeping over at a friends house & she had a hamster which we took out in the tv room to let run around. Well in the morning, I was the 1st one up. I went downstairs to watch tv & took out little Hammy, at some point while watching tv, I lost track of him and after that we couldn't find him at all! I was so upset, especially cause it was my friend's. They found him a few weeks later & needless to say, he didn't make it! To this day, I'm still feel totally guilty about it. Talk to him & give him big hugs! I hope that boys get over these things better than girls! It's a total accident & I hope in time he'll feel better!

I'm so very sorry to hear about this tragic accident. When I think of your son Hayden, I'm reminded of the layout you did "Superhero". He is truly such a dear boy and I will be praying for you and your family in this difficult time.
