Red face Upgrading to Windows 7

I just got the package to upgrade my computer from Vista to Windows 7 and am going to start in a few minutes - as soon as my latest backup is finished.

In case I don't show up here for a few days - this is why. Hopefully, all will go very smoothly - Ha Ha!

Fingers crossed that the upgrade goes smoothly! I'd love to switch because I've heard so many people really like it! Give us an update when you've had a chance to play with it!

Hope it goes well for you. DH just read an article to me last night that said upgrading from Vista is a piece of cake...but upgrading from XP...PAIN! Have to reformat and copy stuff over, install your programs. UGH!

Let me know if this is true. He has Vista...I have XP! Figures. I won't upgrade if it is a mess. I don't need that in my life right now!!! LOL

A friend upgraded from Vista, said it was a breeze and he loves the 7!

The upgrade went just fine and everything was setup just the way I had it on Vista. Took about 2 hours but my PC is loaded with many programs.

The only issue I am having is that Windows7 does not include an email program, so I am trying to figure out what to use. Microsoft offers Windows Live for free as an additional download, but I am not sure I want to use that one. So I will probably spend a few hours tonite Googling email programs instead of working on the layout for the Week 4 Challenge.

Barbara... gmail (google) is always a backup email program. They had a couple outages a few weeks ago but hope they are up and cookin' now. I have it setup as my mail for "not-so-important" and it's been perfectly ok...

I have AOL's free version and like it very much. I paid for AOL for a long time ... until I found that they have a pared down free version.

Glad that your installation of Win 7.0 went so well!

Happy to hear the installation went well. That's always a relief! What email program did you use before the upgrade? Can't that work anymore? We have a bundled package FIOS from Verizon but the mail is read via Mac's Mail. I am used to it enough now tho I never liked Entourage in the MacOffice Suite. I miss some of the features of the PC Outlook but mostly because I'd used it for so many years at home and at work.

I have a gmail account but personally find it a 'messy' looking program. I keep it for emails I'm subscribed to but don't look at daily - e.g. Freecycle. All my mail is on my Iphone too so I can see it when I want. btw, I got into this mode watching Dick when he still had a Blackberry.

Glad to hear your upgrade went smoothly. I have two email accounts. The first one I got just to have a generic email that I didn't have to change if I changed internet providers and it is with hotmail. The second one I got when I bought my new cell because by activating it I get a discount on my cell bill. It is with aol and I love it. I can check it on my cell and easily delete any unwanted emails.

I used Outlook when I had XP (still have that computer, but it is dialup and only for when my internet connection is down), then with Vista I had to change to Windows Mail as that is what Vista included.

But with Windows7, Microsoft removed the email application. I finally decided last night just to download and use the Windows Live Mail which Microsoft now offers as a free download. It found all my saved emails and contacts etc. and automatically set it all up again. It was just a little confusing at first because my first attempt at downloading and installing it didn't work. But now everything is back to normal and I'm happy.

Anyone remember the old days when you had to muck around with Config.sys and Autoexec.bat files and install all your own device drivers, etc? Things have definately improved.

So today I will work on the Week 4 Challenge layout.

Thanks for everyones best wishes.

I am glad Windows 7 is finally out. I was looking to upgrade my desktop and go to a laptop like my husband so I could be more portable and not have the hassle of two computers. When I heard the change was coming I decided to wait, maybe a cool christmas present. New Laptop with Window's 7.

My 13-year-old son just used my computer and said, "I love how FRESH Windows 7 looks!" He cracked me up. For email, use Thunderbird!!!! Love it. And I can get mail from my gmail account and my server and yet one more address all at one spot with it. And it's not real hard to move / backup.
