I have been officially uninvited to my niece's wedding this coming weekend and asked not to come. I wish I could say that my feelings are hurt, but in reality it is a bit of relief too. My niece has been a bit of a bridezilla.
My kids are both infected with H1N1 flu virus for the past week. Due to the fact that I am not sick after taking care of two very sick kids for the past 7 days, I really don't think I will be coming down with it any time soon. However, I did call my niece and let her know that the kids were sick and that my hubby had planned to stay home with them on Saturday (he was an usher and I was the photographer for the day) and wouldn't be able to be in the wedding party. She just called me back and said she doesn't want any of us to attend now. After reading her facebook update, I wonder if she is really nervous about me carrying the virus or more to the fact that she is really mad at us for saying that one of us needed to stay home with the kids. Her facebook was not kind to us for throwing a wrench into her wedding plans. I am sorry, but life happens and my kids' health is a priority for me. As for the relief, I am scared to death of taking her wedding pics given the demands she has made of me for the past two years. She said a cousin of the groom will take pics instead on Saturday and I wish him the best. She has some very unreasonable demands for the pics that I warned her would not be in the best interest. I was very worried about the pics not turning out the way she wanted them. This way it is out of my hands and I no longer have to stress out over them. I'll spend another day with my kids playing board games. Hopefully by Saturday, we will be caught up with all the homework from missed school days.

Sounds like it really worked out for the best. I think I would much rather spend a day playing board games with the kids than sweating out what might or might not send the bride into orbit! ;-)
Hope you and dh stay healthy!!

I think you have been handed a blessing with the uninvite. Potential sickness is no fun and a free day with your short people sounds great.

Oh, I remember a thread you posted several months ago regarding the unreasonable demands she was making on you as the photographer. Even if your kids hadn't become ill, you would have had a hard time living up to her expectations. I'd say take a deep breath and relax with your family. I hope they all are feeling better.

Yes, I would say you dodged a bullet. I wouldn't want to photograph a wedding - EVER! Even if it is the nicest couple I would worry about not getting all the "important" shots! Have fun playing board games and taking care of YOUR family!

Unbelievable that she put that on Facebook. My friend who is a photographer gave up wedding photography years ago because of people like her!

Thanks for all your support. As a little update, I enjoyed the day with the kiddos. Both are well again and back in school. The wedding was, from my understanding, quite a production and bridezilla was the appropriate term. The best man was the bride's childhood friend, not the groom's... I guess she also told her dad to "shut up" during her speech at the reception. OH MY! The couple's first dance together was the "Hokey Pokey." That had to be a sight to see.... I am thrilled not be involved in all that drama!
I will have to post my "Piggy Flu" scrap page soon!
