I've only used these sites for avatar and the odd photo hosting Heather but have you thought of using Picasa for sharing family photos. I've been making photo albums then just sending the link to family members. They can pick which ones they like to download and the quality is good. So far I haven't hit a limit with them!

I use Shutterfly.. there is no limit on the nr of photos you can upload and then you setup a Sharesite and select the photos or albums you want to share and add them to the share site. You have the option of giving everyong the URL and a password or if they have a shutterfly account you can make them a member of your site. Here's one I did for my neices wedding it's super easy.
http://gelatowedding.shutterfly.com/ password is gelato It has a few pages just click on the the tabs towards the top Once people have the url you can add pics whenever you want and they can visit whenever they want.. you can even set it up to email everyone when there is an update. I have several share sites for my son's Little League team, basketball team, music school, etc. You can set the security however you like Hope this helps Donna

I use Shutterfly, too.
Usually, after I upload a batch of photos to Shutterfly, I share that particular batch, via their email share service, to interested parties in the family that I know might want to order prints. I also set up a Share site for family members.
