Default Ironing sucks!!!

I can't believe it - but I ironed from around 10.30am to 7.00pm yesterday!!!! I know that at 24yrs Sara should be doing her own, but I couldn't stand the sight of the mega ironing pile any longer! I swear she is buying new clothes instead of ironing! I know...I'm a failure as a mother...I should have taught them good housekeeping skills

To be fair, there were other things in that pile and quite a few duvet covers and pillow cases - So moan over, but I hate laundry, all that washing and ironing - again and again and again...

Fiona

I admire you! That's a full day's work!! I despise ironing!! I only do it about once a month when it's piled up to a point that I just can't put it off any longer.

I bought an iron with Christmas money once. My husband looked at me dumb-founded and said, "but. . . you don't iron." I looked at him and said, "That's right, THIS is for quilting."

One thing I don't do is IRON. Since I work, I have a housekeeper---I wash the clothes. She irons. BUT when I did not have a housekeeper--I only ironed my own clothes. Everyone in the family had to iron their own---kids included.

Yuck, that's why I don't iron. If DH needs a shirt ironed for work he does it himself. Luckily that's rarely the case.

I hate ironing. My DH does his own, thank goodness. When I met him, and met his parents, I found out that my MIL starches my FIL's jeans. WHHAAT? No way! Unh-unh! So I buy mostly clothes for me that don't require ironing. DH wears mostly cotton, so it's not difficult. It's just there's so much fabric for him, at 6' 8", his clothes have more surface area than mine do!

I do NOT iron.

I believe in ON DEMAND ironing. If it needs it, I demand my hubby does it

I iron dinner napkins. and nothing else. When my girl was in the 7th grade and I was still doing laundry at the Laundromat, I discovered her clean clothes in the basket. As in - too lazy to put them up. After that, she came to the laundry with me to do her own. She has piles of laundry all around her washer now....with two kids and a serious clothes love. I don't. Just last week she rang me to talk about a steamer!! I have one. She will! I basically want to just wear work out clothes and the least amount of apparel otherwise!!

I LOVE it!

And, Patricia, my boys did the same thing when they were in 7th grade (Mark, too must be the year) . . . . and I responded the same way you did. Haven't done their clothes since.

I'm with katrina as well on this one - the school clothes for the eldest two get done (the youngest doesn't need it - still in wash and wear for his school) and then if my husband gets me his shirt then I will iron it but he mostly does his own. Otherwise all clothes (theoretically) get put away and ironed when required.

that is why I am sooo happy my DH do not need to wear shirts at work - very layed back style at their office - so I iron on the the day he need to wear one - or he needs to do it himself. The kids and I have only a few clothes that needs ironing.

I also believe in ironing on demand. Mostly IF we (and that is a very very big if, since we never do it) - go out and have to dress up. Or if I have guests and have to go over a table cloth. Which is rarely too.

I teach my family to buy clothes that do not ironing. LOL!! The next step is to get clothes that a. do not need to washed or b.wash themselves.
Now that would be very helpful.

Or did anyone mention a maid ????

strange, i know, but ironing is one of the few housework sort of things i like! but i did discover a few days ago that i HATE ironing duvet covers. i must admit that i never did an ironing MARATHON, as you did. my daughter's moved into a flat with a friend, so now i don't SEE the pile, which is helpful.

LOL, Kelly!
I don't do ironing, either. In fact, we showed our boys an iron and told them what it was for when they started school just in case it was ever an item on a test.

I hate ironing with a passion, but my ironing basket stares me in the face everytime I go past it.

When I do iron I stick the telephone headphones on, attach the phone to my belt and will talk to mum or my bestie, it's amazing how much ironing you can do when you're not actually only doing that alone.

Ok, you can come to my house and do ....something...for me. What can we barter??

I like ironing tho I do very little. Most of my clothes go out on the clothesline and we usually have good enough weather for the amount we wear etc. Just 2 people don't create a lot.

I do iron napkins. I like that feel and I have a great collection of cloth napkins. I also occasionally iron out the clothespin marks on linen shirts. Other times I just spray some water on it and smooth it out and body heat drys it.

My husband has no clue on how to iron or sew. However, my x-h could do it all. He had 2 yrs in the AF and was pretty self sufficient that way. When we first married I saw other dirt-poor AF wives washing, startching, and ironing fatigues. No way....those babies went to the laundry and came back stiff enough to stand on their own. Fortunately we could afford the 50cents or so it cost.

I hate ironing and put it off as long as I can. Hubby's shirts get sent out. Funny I just did my ironing yesterday also. There were some summer things in there that went straight in the pile to be put away for the season. No sense wasting time ironing those

Wow, that's a lot of ironing. I'm glad to read here that many of us don't like ironing. I don't hate it, but it's not my hobby exactly either!

I hardly ever iron - and everyone is responsible for their own laundry - my daughter's room is upstairs & I just don't go up there so I don't have to see the mess (although I hear it's horrid). My clothes are all wash & wear except for a few things that I only wear occassionally because.... well, I hate ironing.

Ironing was the one chore as a child that I liked. Did burn myself a few times though on my dad's work handkerchiefs. It was a nice soothing procedure. Wash, dry, dampen, roll up, store in linen closet, iron when come home from school and watch the soaps with my mom. {sounds a little odd now, but I really did like it, now I buy wrinkle free to save time}
