Default Yay miracle! it's fixed!

Well not exactly a miracle - we've just spent nearly an hour on the phone to a very patient young man in India who didn't give up on us, although I'm sure he should have! We changed our router, as we reckoned that the old one was the problem but the Mac refused to see the wireless network with the new one ... so he patiently talked us through connecting to the PC laptop with the ethernet cable (?) don't ask - no idea why - then he changed stuff and then the Mac worked with wireless, hurrah!

It was a bit difficult at times because we couldn't understand his accent and I'm sure he couldn't understand ours. At one point my DH said to him "you'll need to slow down, I'm nearly 77 y'know..." I couldn't stop laughing, but it worked as he started explaining everything very slowly after that LOL!!

I can't believe how lovely he was, and sooooo patient! Anyway, we're back on line, so I can still catch up with you girls!

Fiona

So glad everything turned our well for you Fiona. The last time I bought a new router my imac wouldn't recognize it so I tried it using the mac laptop and, it worked somehow, I still have no idea why. Strange things these computers!

Ahh, but, don't you feel accomplished and smart now that you worked through all that technical talk? You know what, I bet your new router will make your Internet experience way smoother. I'll have to remember to use the I'm 77 years old line, only, for me, it's not that far off the truth!

I've had similar situations twice this year. I'm afraid I have NO patience. Here in Australia you get to go through a whole heap of steps with a computer generated voice before you get to talk to the indian/phillipino/whatever. The first time the problem was actually a fault on the telco's line. Took almost the whole day to track it down! lol about the husband and TV selection! Funny how much the Internet changes the household dynamics.

Help Desk technician is one of the most difficult, most stressful customer service jobs out there (I did it for 5 years). It is a compliment to him that he was patient for an hour---I spent nearly 8 1/2 hours on the phone with a Dell technician several years back. When he answered, I said, "I've got a fried motherboard." 8 1/2 hours later, he said, "Yep. I've verified you have a fried motherboard. We'll send one tomorrow."

Glad you're back online! It's a bummer to be without. It's amazing how we rely on it to keep us connected.
