Default my next Christmas present

Michael is offering to buy me an HD camcorder for Christmas. Does anyone have one? Could you make any recommendations? What size of drive do I need?

Myra call me... I have Sony HDD 120 handycam... it's small and powerful even the 60 one would be enough, BUT and that's where BIG "BUT" comes you'll have to be prepared for hours and hours of editing, playing, transferring and specially burning DVD that takes ALOT of time and you can't do anything else on the computer (I'm talking about my laptop... that's where I do everything) if you have 2 comps. you gonna use one just for that... I was addicted to all that, but finally I chose camera... movie making takes long time and there is so many goodies to add later from titles to music to transitions... you gonna be swamped...

O, I know!! Tell him to get you the Canon 7D!! It's the new version of the 5D Kerry and I have. It is an amazing camera and takes HD video at 60 fps - ie., slow motion. It comes out mid-September and naturally is less expensive than what I bought!! You will need some decent video editing software, too. Final Cut Express from Academic Superstore. And yes, there is a learning curve and it does take a big hard drive and a fast computer. But Andrew does it all on his 15"MacBookPro. Have Fun deciding. It is a new domain!!

Patricia,
I think the 7D is the upgrade to the 50D. From what I know it is not a full frame like your beautiful piece of machinary (that I am drooling over--you are so very lucky!)
Your 5D mark II won't have an upgrade for a long while (or so the fellow in the camera store told me.)

If you don't want to spend forever editing, I second the Flip HD camcorder!! It is small, fits in my purse, and has the editing program on it. It takes me just a few minutes to make a movie and a few more and it will be compressed and go on my Facebook or YouTube. My DDs have gotten them (which sucks, that was my idea for Christmas!) cuz they kept borrowing mine. Easy. Small. Inexpensive. AND it passes the "wow that really is HD" comment from my techie son-in-law.
