I've been happy with my organizational system for my DD materials except for my papers. It is just too broad for me!! I forget what I have and have too many to remember where something is! I went shopping this morning and added so many great sale items. They all fit under their specific headings ie: alpha, frames, templates... and so on. But when I put something under Papers I may never see it again!! I do have them arranged by Designer but need more specific than that.
I know that everyone has their own system, but I'd love it if you'd share "what works for you"!! Thanks so much for listening! Joni

i organize by store>designer. I tag as paper, then by color (full range of basic colors, plus a "multi" category for those that don't really fit a single color category).

Same as Anna. I save my supplies by designer first, then by paper, elements, brushes, etc. But, I tag papers by color, stripes, dots, etc so that I can see all my blue dotted papers at once. (ACDSee)

Color because that's how I tend to go looking for paper when I want to use it. I have a few other folder for florals, stripes, etc.

Under Paper Packs I have a folder for basics (in that folder are the neutrals, the textured solids, the Krafty papers, i.e. the kind of papers I use for backgrounds) and then folders for each of the designers who design paper packs.
Full Kits are sorted by designers.

I am just starting my DD collection but have struggled with the same issue of finding what I need. I haven't invested in a photoshop program, and the program I use requires that I pull everything I want to use into the program before I use it, which slows the system down even more than it's origional snail pace.
My latest sorting seems to be working very well. I save each of my purchases in it's own folder under Designer digitals master folder, re-namine it based on the package name, i.e. "winged things". Then I put the preview for the set into a Preview folder. I can then slideshow my way through items when I don't know exactly what I am looking for, and then pull in just the elements I want. Hope this make sense, I think I like it, and I don't have to take too much time "tagging" items.

I only tag by paper, but I've only got about 1000 pieces of paper, so it doesn't take me long to go through everything, I've got it mostly in my head.
I've always wanted to tag by color, which is easy---but then how do you do patterns? Just solids and patterns? What if it's a solid with a really subtle watermark pattern on it? Is that a solid, or a pattern? Those minutiae are what would drive me bonkers. I might try by color---but then I find myself getting into the habit of forgetting that I can recolor anything I want. But organizing is so much fun---sometimes I'd rather do that than scrapbook. In fact, I think I'm going to go tag paper by color, just for something relaxing to do!
