While Sharlah has not mentioned the time of chemo before, and the 3 months+ of recovery time, this is still a move forward for all of us emotionally. Maureen (btw, I had to delete many many smiley faces from Sharlah's words. Just imagine them hither and yon!)
~~~~~~~~~ We had our first outing today in 2 months!!! My husband said that I would go stir crazy before Bekah did and I think he was right. Bekah and I went to Target -after school began- but before lunch (less crowded). She wore her mask and did a great job not touching anything. After shopping for a very cute Hello Kitty outfit (her favorite) we came back home, stripped and then showered. Hopefully, we will have kept all the germs at bay. Regardless, I think she loved the ordinariness of the trip! Now we are washing the clothes and she can't wait to wear them tomorrow! What a special treat (the clothes and the outing). Update: * Bekah is fighting a low grade fever again. I just hope it doesn't go any higher. She is still on steroids and that is probably keeping it in check. * Dr. Graham called from Tuscon. He said he planned on calling the dr's but has already talked to our nurse practitioner and feels the Dr's are all on the same page about not having to wait more then one more month for transplant. Because she is severe neutropenic (almost no white cells) combined with having a match (yeah!) they don't want to wait too long. * Home schooling is hard! It is not easy to convince her to sit and learn even when it is fun stuff. The homebound teacher from the hospital said not to push....so I take lots of deep breaths and say "OK. Maybe we will try something else." (THAT is soooo not me!) ![]() Tomorrow we go in for cbc (blood counts). So I will update later. I also want to add how much all your prayers mean to us. ..Thank-you! It fills our hearts with such a good feeling knowing that others pray for Bekah to be healed. lots of love--Sharlah
so happy that they got to do some normal life things like shopping and just getting out. Bet she will look so cute in her new Hello Kitty outfit! Will continue to keep Bekah and her parents and you in my thoughts and prayers. Hope the fever goes away and the transplant can be done quickly and she can be on her way to healing!! God is taking care of her! Keep us posted!
I know that trip to Target did a world of wonders for both Bekah and Sharlah. It's amazing what joy ordinary things can bring when life is so extraordinary, like Bekah's right now. Praying the fever subsides and she remains strong for whatever treatment the doctors and her parents feel is best. Thanks for keeping us up to date, Maureen.
Isn't amazing what a jaunt off to Target can do for the soul?!?!?
I think my dh and I have learned that things we thought we could never deal with are just life gifts in less than pretty packaging. We have so much pleasant in our lives, we just want to make it bearable for our own children. I have one 'child' going back 'over there' again so my Nannie visits will get stepped up a bit on that homefront.
