I've enjoyed all of the specials that have been aired recently on the first moon landing.
The New York Times has a wonderful multi media slide show on the entire, crazy year of 1969, including the Apollo mission. So much happened during those 12 months! I was 11 and remember most of it like it was yesterday. Thought I'd share the link with you... 1969 - The New York Times

It's hard to believe it's been 40 years. I was engaged to be married. My aunt and uncle were visiting and staying in a hotel where we watched the moon landing. I'd forgotten the Manson murders were the same year. And can Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid possibly be 40 years old?? I don't think so!

It was a crazy time to be a kid-- it seemed like there was too much happening all the time! I, too, remember it all as if it were yesterday!
Oh! I didn't realize at first that each photo has a little play arrow and is a mini slide show of its own. Amazing.

I think the day I most remember in 1969, other than our wedding day, was the day of the draft lottery. We had been married three months, were finishing up our senior year at college and our whole life could be determined by the draft number that corresponded to DH's birthday. His number was 353 which meant he would most certainly not be drafted.

Wow what a year and what a cool collection. For once I can happily say I was too young to remember (only 3) but it looks like a great time to have been around.

I too was only a baby but am absolutely enjoying all the recollections of the moon walk. Here in canberra it has been high in the news all week because the original pictures came through a tracking station here first to be beamed around the world.
It is funny to think that the programs we use to do our scrapbooking and interact with people around the world are more powerful than the original computers used to send these men into space. |

Kerry, thanks...I totally enjoyed that! The music was so fantastic and I got to swoon again over Paul Newman and Robert Redford.
