Default Walter Cronkite: And that's the way it is...

I was so sad to learn of the passing of Walter Cronkite yesterday. He was the voice of the news for me from my childhood until my early adulthood.

The memories came flooding back this morning-- not just of the historic events from the Kennedy assassination, the Apollo missions, through the Nixon resignation, and all the rest-- but also the unfolding of my own life in the context of history, with Walter Cronkite as truly the anchorman of the era.

When we took our children to Disney World years ago, Walter Cronkite narrated Spaceship Earth, and my husband and I remarked at the time that he seemed like the perfect voice for it....

Yes, it seems like we have lost so many landmark people this year--

Lynn, my memories are so like yours. His voice was part of my growing up, too. Thanks for posting this.

He WAS the news while I was growing up. It's never been the same since he retired.

True... He had a sense of believability... not manipulation... Passages...
