I'm so sorry. This sounds very frightening. I will say a prayer now and continue to keep your bil in my prayers.

I'm sorry to say there is no good news yet to report...they weren't able to switch him to the other ventilator yet and he is still sedated. His lungs are more damaged since the bronchoscopy but the good news is that his other organs have not been affected and are functioning fine. They should be closer to having an answer from the cultures and hoping and praying that it's not too late and he will recover. They have already said when he does get to the point he can leave the hospital..he will have to go into rehab for a while. Hoping for a miracle..he has a daughter to walk down the isle next month! please keep praying! Thanks! Vicki

The samples they took during the bronchoscopy haven't given them any answers and they still don't know just what they are dealing with. He is still on the oscillating ventilator and sedated with a feeding tube. They told the family that they had a patient (younger than Carey) several months ago with similar symptoms and it took a month for him to recover and they never found out what he had either. Sounds all kind of weird to me..like it's too bad he couldn't be transferred to Chapel Hill or Duke here but they say he can't be moved. Is it just me or does this all sound kind of strange??? I just don't understand how someone can have lungs filled with infection so bad they can't breath on their own and after 10 days there's not a clue to what it is or where it came from???? Maybe I watch too much TV. Anyway, we need to keep praying ... I know that will help! Thanks for all the prayers and good thoughts sent his way already. Will update when there is a change. Vicki

It sure sound strange... but GOD works mysterious ways, so will hope that in Carey's case it is going to be a MIRACLE...

I would think an outside consult would be in order. Or send the cultures to Duke or UNC or Emory or UAB. I'm not a conventional prayer but I have my contacts and I will call out "my people" as my daughter, the Methodist calls it. Carey hasn't been traveling out of the country has he?
I am with you Vicki. We all are.

I'm just seeing your updates, now, Vicki. How frustrating and scary to have him continue to be dangerously ill with no answers as to why.

One of my son's friends picked up a very serious lung infection after a vacation in Arizona that went undiagnosed for a very long time. Somehow, he pulled through and is fine. I pray for that outcome for your brother in law.

I think you could see this as a glimmer of hope that he will pull out of this, and I think our prayers are working. I'm sure we will all keep it up for you until this crisis subsides. Hope you are holding up alright, its such a strain, but keep the faith.
