Question And How Did You Pick That??

Being new to the forums I don't know if this has been done. If it has, direct me there. I would love to read them!!

I am always curious as to how people picked their screen names. It makes really good reading...some good laughs...and helps to get to know one more thing about each other.

You don't really want to know why I picked mine do you
I often wondered about that myself though (not mine of course)

This is as fun topic. Ages ago, many of us created pages to share the origins of our user names.

This was mine, but it's simple because it was the discussion of my name the started it all, so everyone already knew mine was a nod to Harry Potter.

Maybe some others can share theirs, or some new members can create one now?

ETA: And NOW I notice a typo on it!! ROFL

I always wanted for people when they come across to some of my work, like photos that I took or pages I did, and if they like it... you know how they usually say to themselves... "Who did that ?" and the answer would be... (especially when you don't know the name of a person)... O-O-o ... you know... That Girl... and that's a reference to me... that how I picked my screen name.
I would like to here your version...???

Well, I guess if this is a go, I should tell mine.

It was actually my husband's CB (remember when EVERYONE had one of those?) handle. We ran a lumber company for almost 30 years. He used that so when I needed to come up with something...I thought that was as good as any!!!

Oh, sheesh! I thought Anke was your name, Anke! Dang it.

My maiden name starts with Mc and as a teen, a lot of boys would call me "Mac" which was also my Dad's nickname.
Then, when I met my DH, he started calling me either "Mac" or "Kerry Mac" and it's just kind of stuck ever since then.
I actually really like being called Mac but hardly anyone ever knows that story anymore and so I'm usually just Kerry, or "hey you" or MOTHER!!! Or even better, "mommy".

I fall into the bunch that are basically self explanatory... I am bad with picking names for myself... have childrens' names picked out if we ever happen upon that blessing but picking my own, no creativity.

Back in the day of first email addresses, they would usually pick your first initial and then first up to 7 letters of your last name to get your username... the thinking stuck with me so explanation = first name starts with h, last name begins with guenthe... put together you get hguenthe

Here is my layout for the "screen name challenge" a couple of years ago. My page tells how I decided to call myself "readstoomuch" . . . even though it is pretty much self explanatory I think.

Eeeks ... this layout is so pale that it is very hard to read ... needs a redo I'm thinking.

Although my name is fairly self-explanatory, I like that my maiden name and married name start with "A", so I've been Esther A for my whole life!
I love the history in Heather's name. I can remember the trauma of creating meaningful names from 8 characters!

This is a fun thread, but mine is really, really boring! I used my last name first initial for an e-mail address a long time ago and am not creative on these things so I use it on forums too.

I went a searching for my layout that I did for this years ago, but guess what?! I never posted it, and once I found it, I know why, lol. So my screen name was actually my backup junk mail email address. The one I used when I'd fill out paperwork, or anything that i knew would just be junk mail. Starlite just because in high school my favorite thing to do was lay out and watch the night sky, and 9711 9 was my softball number and 7-11 is my birthday. When I first registered here three years ago, I had NO idea I would get so addicted and might want a name a tad more grown up

LOL! Exactly why my username is so darn boring - I've been down that road with screen names before. My darn blog is still under an old screen name from another site.

OMG, I'm cracking up at you Ashley and Kathie. LOL "TaDa!" LOL

I tried to think of something that would make a certain sister of mine stop and think when she saw my first layout in the gallery. I picked a name and then didn't want to take a chance that she might miss it so I posted my AKA card with my screen name first. She loved it so it was "all good." Of course she decided to turn it into her own game and wait and see how many of the team could make the connection. . . it's always about her.

LOL, Kelly - i only realized it out about a month ago. and only b/c someone else mentioned it in a post or chat...

quilter for me, because before i really began scrapping i was a quilter. and 4-22 because i've come to think of it as my "lucky day", for a variety of reasons. but mostly because my first cat, isosceles, was born that day. she and i had a deep bond and i miss her dearly still, though she's been gone just over 9 years now.

Mine's one of those oh so simple ones. My first name is actually Deborah but there are about a gazillion of those and I didn't want to use my real name so at another site I chose just Dora but that was already in use so I thought just add the h to that and got Dorah.

Well, there is a story behind my screen name. For twenty years, I was an English teacher and big time Anglophile. A colleague tried for years to convince me the author of Shakespeare's works was not the man from Stratford, but I pooh-poohed him. Then he got me to read The Mysterious William Shakespeare by Charlton Ogburn. I became a convert to the Oxfordian camp. I now believe Edward deVere, the 17th Earl of Oxford, wrote the plays attributed to Shakespeare. If you want a fascinating read, get the book.

So, in tribute to him, I've used earlofoxford as my screen name for pretty much everything.

Lynn, I totally thought Singers was your maiden name.

Oh, this just shows how boring I am.

Before I was married, my screen name everywhere was Eurydice, since I was Classical Languages major. And I thought it was funny no one knew how to pronounce it, it drove everyone crazy.

My DH's name is Duane, Garner is our last name, hence dugarner. We use it as our username for almost every account imaginable.

However, for a brief period right after we were married, my "handle" was Galactic Tadpole. DH was El Conquistador. Don't ask. I don't think there's even an explanation.

Seriously? I'll have to read the book...sounds fascinating... i luv Shakespeare.

Mine's easy- i love all things computer- and was in an NT class years ago so i became "geek girl". Happens to be quite a few of us out there now...

Oops- forgot the 415 part. 415 is the CA penal code for causing a distubance (general noise, disturbance, etc)

We had a thread like this a while back too - but it is always interesting to get to know you new ladies a little better too.

My name, mrscoala, began back when I was dating my dh. He used to tell me that I reminded him .... of all things... a coalabear.... cute, but fiesty. Ah well.
So back then, in the 90's I used "coala73" as my online name for a long time.... 73 being the year I was born. Now, when I married this oh so romantic dh of mine... I became "mrscoala".

I wish now I had used a different name, like being boring and used my own name for a change, when I signed up here at DD. But, then again, I think most you know me by my real name already, so that's cool.

Oh, and I have no connection what-so-ever to Australia or coalabears... I am not even cute anymore. Just a little feisty.

My husband's nickname is "Muddy" with his old school friends, its from his surname in a roundabout way. We have always had this or a version of this for email addresses, so now that its my surname too it just comes naturally to me to have a version of it for a screen name. Plus I suck at comming up with "cool" names for things.

Well, I picked bluelemur as my "handle" a long time ago because I love lemurs, and the color blue is OK too. And now it's just easy to remember and it's sort of "me", although like a few other people here, I wish I had a more grown-up name. However, "Jennifer" is probably the most common word in the universe and it's always hard to come up with something creative with "Jennifer" in it. So bluelemur it is! (The ring-tailed ones, of course, if anyone is wondering!)
