I don't post all that often, but MarriedLady or MarriedLadyTara have been my screen names for everything since I got married. Someone reminded me that I was about to be a "married lady" and it just stuck.
But once upon a VERY long time ago, in the early days of the internet, I was IMSHORT49 because I'm only 4'9" tall

Well mines pretty boring, but I am proud of it. Mine is my first and middle names. My first name is after my dad (Donald) and my middle name Phay is also my grandmothers middle name. When I was growing up they always called me Dawnee Phay...never just Dawnee or Dawn. When I got into Junior High, I insisted on being called Dawn. I thought that Dawnee was just so juvenile..let alone Dawnee Phay (pronounced fay btw). Then I married and my last name was now Dahm. Dawn Dahm. YUKKKKK! So I went back to Dawnee. I am sure that that stupid name was the reason I divorced and took back my maiden name. When I became a young adult I became obsessed with my family tree. When I started my research, I found that Phay was her mother's maiden name. So the name has a lot of heritage attached to it. When I got my first email account, I used Dawneephay....then when I started digiscrappin, it was just easier to use the name on all the millions of sites I belonged to. (but now DD is my favorite and most used and visited site!)....So....TADA...Now I've bored everyone to death...yada yada yada...okay Dawnee SHUT UP!!! REALLLLLY!! Just shut up already. thanks for listening....I really need counseling.....

my name comes from a section in Paul Theroux's book: Riding the Iron Rooster: By Train Through China. Theroux is aware (and kind of enjoying) that he's being a complete pain in the #%$ to his Chinese government handler, but in time he comes to admire the man's restraint and wonders to himself why the guy just doesn't throw his hands up in the air and scream "WHAT NEXT??!!!" at him. that appealed to my sense of humor, for some reason. when our family and extended family was going through some really difficult times shortly after i finished reading that book for about the 6th time, the "WHAT NEXT??!!" thing popped into my mind, and i've taken it as a name that defines me and my life ever since then. on the bad side, it's an indication of fear and frustration with how things sometimes go and how things can just drop out of the sky onto your head. on the GOOD side, though, it can be summed up by these words from Annie Proulx: "The joy of finding things out is huge, it's wonderful.I'll never get over it." So that's life. What next??!!! for good or ill.
geez. a bit long-winded, aren't i?

What fun reading this!! Mine is... duh... my name! Sometimes I use Yummers as that is the name of my blog! And that name came from a children's book called Yummers! One of my many... too many... hobbies is making jewelry with Sculpey Clay. A shop in my hometown asked if I'd like to sell her some for her store... and then I branched out. She said, "It's so yummy!". I had to have tags made quickly and remembered the Yummers book. Kept the name for years!

I can't believe I never added a post to this thread when it first started, but, I'm glad it was brought to the forefront again for the fascinating reading!
For literary usernames, the prizes go to Linda, Phylis and Cassie. Oh, and, Mollie, for identifying herself as a reader. Terri, I remember when you first posted as Beehive! You were gracious to change your name. Anke, I thought that was your first name, too. Tatiana, every time I see your user name I smile! When I started to scrap digitally, I didn't know any other grandmothers who scrapped digitally. I am glad there are now so many I know here at DD who do. I think I was lucky to grab the user name, digigrandma, because if I hadn't, I'm sure it would have been used by others as the hobby grew in popularity.

I agree - this thread has been such a fun read. I'm reading my screen name out loud now and I realize that it might be interpreted as an aspirational, uplifting moniker or something. Well, no, not really! (Maybe it should have been, though. LOL!) It's actually an ode to Glacier National Park in NW Montana, my all-time favorite place to hike. The historic, scenic road that travels through the park from east to west across the Continental Divide is called the Going-to-the-Sun Road. . . hence, my screen name. So I guess it IS aspirational in the sense that I can always dream of hiking in Montana (while I'm stuck working at my desk). Thanks for the thread!

I loved that show with Marlo Thomas-especially her hair and when I saw the name it was the only thing that came to mind
Mine is really simple Ms Pfeffer is my name when I have always shortened it to MsP because no one can say my last name- I have been totally surprised to find Ms MsP available on any site I have tried it on! on a couple of sites- I really started out on SplitCoastStampers stamping I am fresshe- from the Canterberry Tales in Middel English- fresshe meaning better than fresh- new and good and a word that just means everything is going to be wonderful in the world...but I also have to say that as a teacher I have a new name every year-the kids seem to delight in coming up with a new one so here is a partial list- P-feff, Pfefferlicios, PeeZee... names are just fun!!

This is such a great thread! I lived near Charleston, South Carolina on an Island where the crop of "indigo" was started by a WOMAN. I also love the color indigo. :]

I lived in the mountailns of Colorado for many years and used the name Snowmass for where I lived. Then 2 years ago, we moved to coastal Georgia and I needed to change some names. Couldn't think of one, so I used the name from where I now live - Serenoa Cove. It is named after a palmetto shrub with the botanical name of "Serenoa Repens" which grows all over the place here (pronounced like the 2 names Sarah + Noah).
My real name is Barbara.

OMG this thread is a riot. As per usual, I'm a little late to the thread.
My name is echogirl because after I finished my anesthesia training I did another year training doing cardiac ultrasounds or echocardiography....I was also the only girl doing it..so I quickly became the echogirl. I preferred echochick but noone wanted to call me that . It's the only nickname I've ever had. I loved reading all the names. |

This has been a great thread to read! Thanks for sharing... was wondering about a few of the names myself.
![]() Mine is my real name now... but for 12 years on the internet I was WhtMagik... It was because I studied medicinal herbs forever and I used to get people coming to me (including the town doctor), for herbal remedies out of my gardens. Was actually the doctor who said I had White Magic in my gardens, so it stuck. Well, some people mistook it for me practicing Magic or wicca or witch craft... and I didn't like that association so I changed my screen name to my real name. And just to set straight how to pronounce it, (since SOOO many said it very different at DSE this year). It's Sa-leen-a. or CC or C or Sa-leen or 'Lady with the Harley' Whole other story

What an interesting read this has been! Here's mine:
Snibber has been my family nickname for ever and my dad still calls me Snib...never my real name! When I was a little kid, my brothers and sisters used to play a game called "tiddlywinks" where you had to use a little plastic counter to "bounce" other counters onto a target. I don't remember it, but everyone called it "snibbing" and since I was pretty darn awesome at it (!!) I got the name.
