Default The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society

Mollie I just want you to know that I've just finished the book and thoroughly enjoyed it — thank you so much for the recommendation! We were talking about it at work today, and I was saying how I had never really thought what the occupation of the Channel Islands really meant to the people living there —I had no idea that there was no food or that red cross parcels were stopped for much of the time. Anyway — there's now a queue wanting to borrow it LOL!!!

i gave it to my mom and MIL after Molly's recommendation, and am planning to borrow it from one of them when they're done.

I read this too a little while back after Mollie's recommendation. Such a great book!

I'm in the process of reading this, also based on Mollie's recommendation, and am enjoying it immensely!

I am so smiling that you are loving "The Guernsey ..." as I did. Recommending a book is a funny thing . . . since everyone's taste in books is definitely different. I talked briefly about this book with Lynn(ie) recently, and she told me that she was liking it and reading slowly to savor each page.

I will be re-reading it very soon. It will go on my "faves" shelf of books that I read over and over again!

Oh, how funny to see this! One of my two book clubs is meeting at my house Thursday night to discuss this book! It was sold out absolutely everywhere locally, and all the libraries in the county-wide system were checked out. I waited too long to order from Amazon and would have had to pay for overnight shipping, so I bought the audio CD version from Border's just the other day.

I did not like it to begin with-- mostly because the actress reading it whines a bit in her delivery. But as I got into it, I have really enjoyed it. I think mentally I have come to adjust for the actress/reader's annoying voice. The story is quite sweet and complex. Really interesting to learn about the Channel Islands, too!

Funny to me was that the first book the Literary Society claimed (to the soldiers) to read was "Elizabeth's German Garden." My mother gave me that book! -- a 1901 version-- a few years ago, just before she died. I had not read it, but pulled it out to read this week!

Mollie and I were just talking about this at Disney ... I bought it based upon her recommendation and it is truly one of most beautifully crafted books I have ever had the pleasure of reading. Didn't the characters just come to life before your eyes? Like Lynnie, I found myself reading it slowly and savoring every word.

I just finished reading this wonderful book this afternoon. I was kind of sad that it was over but so very glad that I had had the experience! Thanks so much Mollie for recommending it! Now I need to read more about the Channel Islands. They sound like a wonderful place to visit someday!
