Lightbulb Formatting Text & Hyperlinks

Some of you may have noticed thread postings or gallery descriptions that include bold/underlined/colored text. You may have also seen hyperlinks provided with actual words to click on, instead of a url.

Here are the basic rules for adding this type of formatting in your own posts or gallery descriptions.

You place the text you would like to display between an "opening code" and a "closing code." The opening codes are put within brackets [] and the closing codes are put within brackets with a / in front of the code.

For example, to make text bold, you would put a b in the brackets before your word and a /b in the brackets after your word. It would look like this, but with [] instead of ()
(b) My Text (/b)
Then, if you wanted the text to also be underlined, you would simply add an open/close code for underlining, which is the letter u. It would look like this:
(b)(u) My Text (/b)(/u)
If you wanted italics, you would use the letter "i". Generally, just remember that if you open a code before your text, you must close it after your text.

If you want to change the size of your text, use the following code:
(size="1") My Text (/size)
with values between 1 and 7.
size=1
size=2
size=3
size=4
size=5
size=6
size=7
Another format you can add is color. Here is the code. Remember: you must replace the () with [].
(color=red) My Text (/color)
To add a hyperlink to your text, you use this code:
(url=PASTE URL HERE) My Text (/url)
These codes are not case sensitive. In other words, you can use B, U, I, URL, COLOR, etc.

So, here's your mind-blowing example of a bold, underlined, italicized, red hyperlink:
(url=PASTE URL)(b)(u)(i)(color=Red) My Text (/url)(/b)(/u)(/i)(/color)
As if this isn't enough information, here is a list of some of the many colors you can use:

Black
Sienna
DarkOliveGreen
DarkGreen
DarkSlateBlue
Navy
Indigo
DarkSlateGray
DarkRed
DarkOrange
Olive
Green
Teal
Blue
SlateGray
DimGray
Red
SandyBrown
YellowGreen
SeaGreen
MediumTurquoise
RoyalBlue
Purple
Gray
Magenta
Orange
Yellow
Lime
Cyan
DeepSkyBlue
DarkOrchid

Uh, oh!! I wasn't thinking and did that at another site with Leora's layout, to show off her kit! Maybe when the thread goes off the page I should change it to a link ....or something.

I guess I should clarify, that in the forum, you can just click on "Go Advanced" beneath the text box and do all this formatting by just highlighting the desired text and clicking the appropriate buttton. You have to do it yourself in the gallery, though

Just testing, Cassie

I didn't know about this advanced button. You'd think I'd have more curiosity to click on things to find out what they do.

thanks very much Cassie

Cool thread, Cassie Thanks for putting it all in one place for us...I have this written down somewhere, but I have to hunt down my instructions everything I do html (I just don't do it enough to remember it all). This is so convenient!

I can do a link with the brackets, but I want the name of whatever I'm linking to to be bold. So, I tried using ( ) instead of brackets and adding (b) (/b) in the appropriate places according to your example. Didn't work. Instead of just showing the name in bold of the kit I'm trying to link to, it showed all the code I'd written. Is something simple escaping me here?

You need to put the bold code in the [ ] also.

For a bold title with hyperlink . . . using [ ] instead of ( )

(url=PASTE URL ADDRESS HERE)(b)TYPE TITLE HERE(/b)(/url)

Sam, you just need to add quotes around the url address:

"http://....../4793"

or if you copy and paste: click the link icon, paste the link location and then once you hit enter on the pop up dialogue, type in what you want it to read as that will initially be highlighted.
