Lightbulb Creating an Avatar

Here are a few simple steps for creating an avatar for your profile. An avatar is the small photo that appears next to your name when you post replies to threads in the forum.
  1. Use your software to create a small image 80 x 80 pixels. When you save the image, do a “Save for Web” and make necessary quality adjustments to get the file no larger than 19.5 KB.
  2. Click on USER CP on the menu bar above the first forum thread.
  3. Click EDIT AVATAR in the menu on the left.
  4. Click on Use Custom Avatar and then click “Choose File.”
  5. Navigate to your avatar image from step 1 and click “Save Changes.”

Hi,
I got the avatar thingy down.. however, I don't see a place on any gallery/forum to post photos (scrapped pages) (upload files) to my own gallery for viewing or for entering into contests... how do you do that???
thanks,
Val

Val . . . click on the "Gallery" link at the top of the page. You must first register in the gallery if you haven't already done so. (the store, forum, and gallery all have independent log-ins)

Once you've logged in, you will see a link to "Upload Photos" in the upper right corner of the gallery homepage.

Default Avatar showing up in forums but not in gallery

Hi Cassie,
I set up my avatar a couple of weeks ago and it is showing up in the forums but not when I post in the gallery. Should it be the same avatar or are those two different steps?
Thanks!

Well, of course, I'm not Cassie, Becky, but, those are 2 different steps. In the gallery click on "profile" to add your avatar for the gallery. Maybe you've already figured that out by now!

Hi Lisa, your cool avatar is working!

Merr's right, Becky . . . it's too different avatars.

Sorry I didn't get this earlier. That darn "New Posts" link at the top of the page isn't working properly, apparently!! We all know I'm on here 52 times a day. Sorry I missed this!

Cassie, you're just letting some of the rest of us look smart by hanging back, right? That was one of the few questions I could answer so I jumped at the chance!!

okay, so I wanted to update my avatar, which I have successfully done in the forums, however I can't get it to change in the gallery. When I go to my profile or edit profile, I can't find another place to update my avatar. When I click on User CP my new avatar is already there...any hints? Thanks!

I'm seeing your new picture in the gallery. I was having the same problem this morning on my work computer after changing mine last night at home. It was still showing the old avatar. But after I made a post, the new one "took hold" & started showing up.

It's likely that you just need to clear your cache to see it.

I've upped the limit so the image size can be 100 x 100.

Hi- I am having the same issue Ashley had back in August. I can see my new photo in the forums, but not in the gallery. It took me Forever to get it the right size for the upload, but I can't see it in the gallery. I have cleared my cache and re-started my browser. Please help!

So how come you can see the new photo, but when I post in the gallery I still see the one with Jacob and I? I know this should not bug me- but it does!

I tried many things, but in the end, to sum it up, I think you just have to play around with the photo until you get the right size (100 x 100 and save for web at 72dpi), and then you have to change it in BOTH your profile as well as User CP and make sure your cache is cleared.

Can someone please tell me how to clear my cache. My avatar photo is updated on my laptop in both the forum and the gallery, but on my pc it is updated only in the forum. Seems weird to me.

Oh, I thought I read that you made it 150x150. Do you think I should try on a smaller size?

150x150 is the correct max size. Just save it as medium or web size.

Make sure to have your image loaded as an avatar, NOT as a profile pic. Only the avatar will be displayed.

Click on the link User CP, then in the 3rd box down you will see a link marked Edit Avatar. Click on that to add the image.
