Default Cassie's Getting Started Tutorial - Help

Hi,

I'm new at this and I need HELP. I've downloaded the tutorial, etc. I have been able to create a blank document, name it and save it. So far so good. Now I select the background paper and it automatically places the background paper on top of the blank document and I cannot move it. I click on the move tool and then click on the background paper holding the mouse button down and I get a message that the layer is locked. Also when I choose another paper to go on top of the background paper, the background paper layer is lost. I cannot find it. So now I only have two layers - the blank page layer and the second paper layer. What am I doing wrong here? I hope this post makes sense.

I don't have that tutorial and I'm thinking you ordered PSE8 (I have PSE6). However, if you have your paper 1 open, drag the paper down into the template into the project bin. And yes, at first all you will see on the main screen is the 12x12 sheet of paper. That's because it's been place on top of whatever else is on your screen. That's how the layers process works.

Go over to the layers palette on the right and make sure your paper is over the section you want it clipped to..the background block. If not, drag it up to the correct spot in the layers palette. Then hold down the Alt(option on Mac) keyhover your mouse between the layers of the background and paper 1 till you see two overlapping circles. Still holding down the alt/option key, click those circles. You should see the paper get clipped to the background then. Accept the action - click the green check mark on your screen and you can go on to the next step.

HTH!

Hello. It sounds like you're in PSE and it's just a matter of changing your workspace view.

Go to Window > Images > Cascade. That will let you see all open documents in their own windows (and reposition them to make things easier to see).

Hope that helps!

If you do have PSE 8, keep in mind you no longer have to drag paper or elements down onto the template in the project bin. You can drag up from the project bin onto the template or background and it will create a new layer, and also name the layer with the file info about that item. Very handy new feature!!
